This guide teaches you how to duplicate (1.4.4 in the labour update.

The process:

1 – Prepare an item chest at spawn for easy access) and the items that you wish to duplicate.
 
 
In my case I'm copying my coins (in order to create the thumbnail)
 
 

 
 
2 – Save and Exit
 
 

 
 
3 – Click multiplayer and host & play. The server settings will not affect duplication, but ensure you use the same world and character when you save and exit.
 
 

 
 

 
I REPEAT: SERVER CONTENTS DO NOT MATTTER
 
 
4 – Once you have logged into your hosted world you can put the item(or) you want duplicate in the chest.
 
 

 
 
It is not possible to close terraria from the task manger.
 
You can delete your items by doing this backwards.
 
 
5 – Once you load in your world again and launch Terraria, you'll see that your items remain in your inventory.

The item can still be duplicated by closing the chest.
 
 
It does not work on mobile devices anymore.
