Always dying to something? Here’s a simple reference for how to deal with each enemy type.

What is this?

It’s a bare-bones basic guide on how to counter each enemy.

This is so that you don’t rely on weapons/skills to play the game for you. Understanding the basic fundamentals is more important than knowing a trick.

The universal blocking rule

“There’s always that one attack that cheats and hits you.”

No matter how good you think you are at dodging or countering, there will always be that attack that breaks all rules and hits you.

React quickly and block it. It’s a skill. You’ll have to develop your eyes to detect the rogue hit, and your reactions to block it. Always heed the universal blocking rule.

Chaos Warrior (rusty armored guy)

Counter: Dodge sideways.

Can you dodge a wrench? These guys are checking for that. They are slow for a reason.

Be sure to dodge sideways, as dodging backwards is not guaranteed to get you out of range.

Mauler (big axe, unarmored)

Counter: Dodge sideways.

These are the same as chaos warriors, just unarmored.

Berserker (double axe guy)

Counter: Blocking.

Can you block? Are you a spam noob? That’s what these guys are checking for. To preserve your stamina, dodge while blocking.

Storm Vermin (legionnaire rat)

Counter: Headshots, Heavy Attacks.

These guys have sticky aiming. Dodging is unreliable, so stagger is the best way to go. Headshots and heavy attacks are good for staggering.

(Still doesn’t hurt to dodge, though.)

Plague Monk (green robe rat)

Counter: Blocking.

These guys are faster than the berserkers, making them less forgiving. Can you block? Don’t be a spam noob. Be sure to dodge a bit to preserve your stamina.

Bestigor (armored beast)

Counter: Dodging sideways.

They are testing your ability to dodge, especially with the charge. Similar to chaos warriors.

Shield guys

Counter: Pushing

Can you push competently? That’s all they are checking for. Pushing breaks their block quickly.

Hordes

Counter: Pushing, dodging

No matter how bad your cleave is, every weapon has push. Push is an incredibly strong stagger and cleave.

When low on stamina, switch to dodging. Flip back and forth between pushes and dodges.

Bosses

Chaos Spawn

Counter: Block, stay away and on his right side (he’s left handed)

This guy is the berserker of bosses. Since he attacks quickly and relentlessly, block and move away.

Stay on his right side (with the little arm). The big left arm is the one that grabs, and it reaches even sideways of him (large arc).

If you are near that tentacle (even partly behind), rotate to a different area.

Ogre

Counter: Dodge, block

He is slow and easily read. You can bait him into a swing and then dodge away, looping him. Block, if you are not feeling comfortable.

Troll

Counter: Dodge, Headshots

He is pretty slow, too. If you pay attention to which arm he is using, you can dodge the opposite away and avoid all hits.

His head is also extremely big and stable, making it very easy to hit.

Stormfiend

Counter: Dodging, positioning

This boss is all about dodging and avoiding hazards. He’s very passive, and you simply need to stay out of the fire.

He is checking your positioning skills as well. If you position behind him, you do far more damage.

Minotaur

Counter: Block, teamwork

This boss is the berserker of bosses, too. He attacks non-stop. If you’re the target, start blocking and try to avoid a few hits, too.

This boss is the trust test. Do you trust your friends to kill him? Can they trust you to kill him?

The final test

The final test is the mixing of all units together. Patrols, certain events, bosses + hordes.

Counter: Ultimate ability, Buff potions, Bombs, Ranged weapons, Teamwork

Using your ultimate is free. Dying is not.

Humble yourself and use your expendables when faced with a high danger. A strong player uses all their abilities. A weak player will go down with a full inventory.

Finally, teamwork. This is a teamwork game, stay together and help each other. Don’t be the guy that runs off and dies.
