Have you ever been stuck in progress because you couldn’t kill a boss in Calamity Mod? In this guide I will show you the best loadouts for Melee Class against every boss!
About the guide
This guide is based on the Calamity Mod Wiki – [fandom.com] and my own opinion/test results. I’ve tested every weapon to know which one is the easiest to use, which weapon have the highest DPS and which accessory is the most useful/powerful at the time.
Please keep in mind that this list is subjective. For me these loadouts are the easiest ways to defeat bosses. Some weapons and accesories can be changed depending on your own preferences.
This guide follows the “Boss Checklist” – [terraria.org] mod’s progression. I’ve used the mod “OmniSwing” – [terraria.org] which makes melee and ranged weapons auto-swing/auto-fire.
Expect some grammar error’s because I’m still learning english. If you find any mistake in this list please warn me about it so I can fix it.
Have fun!
Pre-Eater of Worlds/Brain of Cthulhu
NOTE: Make sure to get 15 Life Crystals before starting to fight against bosses. A fast way to get them is in Space, inside of little rock boulders called "Planetoids". Use a Gravity Potion to reach them.
King Slime

Eye of Cthulhu
- Weapon: Enchanted Sword

Crabulon

Eater of Worlds
- Weapon: Enchanted Sword
- Armor: Victide armor

Brain of Cthulhu
- Weapon: Enchanted Sword
- Armor: Victide armor
- Accessory: Feral Claws, Hermes Boots, Shield of Cthulhu, Cloud/Blizzard/Sandstorm in a Bottle, Fungal Symbiote
Pre-Perforators/Hive Mind
NOTE: After you break a Shadow Orb or a Crimson Heart a Goblin Invasion can occur anytime which unlocks reforging. Focus on gathering money to reforge your weapons and accessories. Having Legendary (or Godly) reforges are a huge boost. You also have 5 accessory slots. I recomend getting 3 Menacing and 2 Warding reforges, because melee have the most defense.
Hive Mind
- Weapon: Enchanted Sword
- Armor: Molten armor
- Accessory: Feral Claws, Frostspark Boots, Shield of Cthulhu, Cloud/Blizzard/Sandstorm in a Bottle, Fungal Symbiote
The Perforators
- Weapon: Code 1 (against the hive)
- Weapon: Flameburst Shortsword (against the worms)
- Armor: Molten Armor
- Accessory: Feral Claws, Frostspark Boots, Shield of Cthulhu, Cloud/Blizzard/Sandstorm in a Bottle, Luxor’s Gift
🛈 TIP: Watch out when you use the Flameburst Shortsword! It performs insanely good against the worms, but you have to stay very close to them.
Pre-Skeletron
Queen Bee
- Weapon: Enchanted Sword
- Armor: Molten armor
- Accessory: Feral Claws, Frostspark Boots, Shield of Cthulhu, Bloody Worm Tooth, Fungal Symbiote
Skeletron
- Weapon: Wind Blade
- Armor: Molten armor
- Accessory: Feral Claws, Frostspark Boots, Shield of Cthulhu, Bloody Worm tooth, Skyline Wings
Pre-Wall of Flesh
The Slime God
- Weapon: Ball O’ Fugu
- Armor: Molten armor
- Accessory: Feral Claws, Frostspark Boots, Shield of Cthulhu, Bloody Worm tooth, Skyline Wings
🛈 TIP: If you are fighting against The Slime God, I highly recommend to build a giant platform across the map. But not all the way, because it can block the spawning of the Astral Biome when entering Hardmode. This platform will make this fight much easier and it will be pretty much necessary when fighting other bosses in the future. (e.g.: Calamitas, Devourer of Gods)
Wall of Flesh
- Weapon: Ball O’ Fugu (against most of the hungrys)
- Weapon: The God’s Gambit (against the Wall of Flesh)
- Armor: Statigel armor
- Accessory: Feral claws, Frostspark boots, Shield of Cthulhu, Bloody Worm Tooth, Strings
Pre-Mechanical Bosses
NOTE: After defeating the Wall of Flesh you can obtain the Demon Heart. This makes you have 6 accessory slots. I recommend having 4 Menacing and 2 Warding accessory.
Cryogen
- Weapon: Axe of Purity
- Armor (old hardmode settings): Frost armor
- Armor (new hardmode settings): Mollusk armor
- Accessory: Bloody Worm Scarf, Frostspark Boots, Shield of Cthulhu, Warrior Emblem, Amalgamated Brain, Frozen Wings
NOTE: New hardmode settings means that the "Early Hardmode Progression Rework" configuration option is activated. If you have this enabled, you are unable to get Titanium/Adamantite stuff's until you defeat the second mechanical boss.
First & second mechanical boss (new hardmode settings)
- Weapon: Axe of Purity
- Armor: Mollusk armor
- Accessory: Bloody Worm Scarf, Frostspark Boots, Ornate Shield, Warrior Emblem, Amalgamated Brain, Frozen Wings
First, second & third mechanical boss (old hardmode settings)
- Weapon: Darklight Greatsword
- Armor: Daedalus armor
- Accessory: Ankh Shield, Frostspark Boots, Ornate Shield, Warrior Emblem, Amalgamated Brain, Starlight Wings
Pre-Calamitas/Plantera
NOTE: After you defeat all the mechanical bosses you are able to fight Plantera which unlocks Golem. After Golem you can fight against the Lunatic Cultist. Because these vanilla bosses aren't hard you can skip a few Calamity bosses. Then you can come back to them with much stronger Pre/Post-Lunatic Cultist items. If you aren't planning to do this I've writed down which items are the best against bosses that you can skip with this method.
Aquatic Scourge
- Weapon: Darklight Greatsword
- Armor: Daedalus armor
- Accessory: Ankh Shield, Frostspark Boots, Ornate Shield, Warrior Emblem, Amalgamated Brain, Starlight Wings
Brimstone Elemental
- Weapon: Darklight Greatsword
- Armor: Daedalus armor
- Accessory: Ankh Shield, Frostspark Boots, Ornate Shield, Warrior Emblem, Amalgamated Brain, Starlight Wings
Calamitas
- Weapon: Pwnagehammer (against Calamitas and his brothers)
- Weapon: Sluphurous Grabber (against the Soul Seekers)
- Armor: Daedalus armor
- Accessory: Ankh Shield, Angel Treads, Ornate Shield, Warrior Emblem (Strings, if you use the Sulphorous Grabber), Amalgamated Brain (Yoyo Bag, if you use the sulphorous grabber), Starlight Wings
(
)
(
)
🛈 TIP: Pwnagehammer deals the best damage against Calamitas but suffers when the Soul Seekers appears. I recommend to beat those with the Sluphurous Grabber. But if you use this Yoyo make sure to equip the Strings and the Yoyo Bag to maximise the damage.
🛈 TIP: The previously mentioned platform across the map becomes necessary against Calamitas. Having a Blessed Applemount is also recommended.
Plantera
- Weapon: Pwnagehammer
- Armor: Daedalus armor
- Accessory: Ankh Shield, Angel Treads, Ornate Shield, Warrior Emblem, Amalgamated Brain, Starlight Wings
Pre-Golem
Leviathan and Anahita
- Weapon: Tyrant Yharim’s Ultisword
- Armor: Reaver armor
- Accessory: Bloody Worm Scarf, Angel Treads, Asgard’s Valor, Mechanical Glove, Amalgamated Brain, Aureate Booster
Astrum Aureus
- Weapon: Tyrant Yharim’s Ultisword
- Armor: Reaver armor
- Accessory: Bloody Worm Scarf, Angel Treads, Asgard’s Valor, Mechanical Glove, Amalgamated Brain, Aureate Booster
Golem
- Weapon: Tyrant Yharim’s Ultisword
- Armor: Reaver armor
- Accessory: Bloody Worm Scarf, Angel Treads, Asgard’s Valor, Mechanical Glove, Amalgamated Brain, Aureate Booster
Pre-Lunar Events
Plaguebringer Goliath
- Weapon: Soul Harvester
- Armor: Hydrothermic armor
- Accessory: Bloody Worm Scarf, Angel Treads, Asgard’s Valor, Mechanical Glove, Fire Gauntlet, Hadal Mantle
Duke Fishron
- Weapon: Soul Harvester
- Armor: Hydrothermic armor
- Accessory: Bloody Worm Scarf, Angel Treads, Asgard’s Valor, Mechanical Glove, Fire Gauntlet, Hadal Mantle
Ravager
- Weapon: Fallen Paladin’s Hammer
- Armor: Hydrothermic armor
- Accessory: Bloody Worm Scarf, Angel Treads, Asgard’s Valor, Mechanical Glove, Fire Gauntlet, Hadal Mantle
Lunatic Cultist
- Weapon: Fallen Paladin’s Hammer
- Armor: Hydrothermic armor
- Accessory: Bloody Worm Scarf, Angel Treads, Asgard’s Valor, Mechanical Glove, Fire Gauntlet, Hadal Mantle
Pre-Moon Lord
Astrum Deus
- Weapon: Tenebreus Tides
- Armor: Hydrothermic armor
- Accessory: Bloody Worm Scarf, Angel Treads, Asgard’s Valor, Mechanical Glove, Fire Gauntlet, Hadal Mantle
Moon Lord
- Weapon: Entropic Claymore (against Moon Lord)
- Weapon: Astral Blade (against Moon Lord’s heart)
- Armor: Astral armor
- Accessory: Bloody Worm Scarf, Angel Treads, Asgard’s Valor, Mechanical Glove, Fire Gauntlet, Hadarian Wings
🛈 TIP: The Astral Blade can be used to drain the Moon Lord's heart. It deals phenomenal damage at the cost of staying close to the boss.
Pre-Providence
NOTE: From the Moon Lord's Treasure Bag you can obtain the Celestial Onion. With this item you will have 7 accessory slots. The same thing applies here like before: melee is the tankiest class so I recommend using 5 Menacing and 2 Warding accessory.
Profaned Guardians
- Weapon: Terrarian
- Armor: Solar armor
- Accessory: Bloody Worm Scarf, Seraph Tracers, Asgard’s Valor, Fire Gauntlet, The Absorber, Celestial Shell, The Community
The Dragonfolly
- Weapon: Terrarian
- Armor: Solar armor
- Accessory: Bloody Worm Scarf, Seraph Tracers, Asgard’s Valor, Fire Gauntlet, The Absorber, Celestial Shell, The Community
Providence, the Profaned Goddess
- Weapon: Terrarian
- Armor: Solar armor
- Accessory: Bloody Worm Scarf, Seraph Tracers, Asgard’s Valor, Fire Gauntlet, The Absorber, Celestial Shell, The Community
🛈 TIP: Defeating Providence in both Hallow and Underground is recommended, becase the drops from both biome is pretty neat. Don't forget to bring the Rod of Discord if you are fighting it in the Hallow biome. In the Hallow Biome it will shoot out a thing called "Holy Ray". The ray sweeps across the area and deals massive damage.
Pre-Polterghast
Ceaseless Void
- Weapon: Galactus Blade (against Dark Energies)
- Weapon: Stellar Striker (against Ceaseless Void)
- Armor: Tarragon armor
- Accessory: Yharim’s Insignia, Seraph Tracers, Elysian Aegis, Blood Pact, Fire Gauntlet, The Absorber, Celestial Shell
🛈 TIP: Stellar Striker can drain Ceaseless Void's health when it's staying still. Make sure to aim at Ceaseless Void when you use it to hit it with the rays from above. But be careful if you are planning to use it, because it requires you to stay very close to the boss in order to maximise the damage of the weapon.
🛈 TIP: Build a huge room in the dungeon to fight the Ceaseless Void. It will become handy later against the Polterghast.
Storm Weaver
- Weapon: Stellar Contempt
- Armor: Tarragon armor
- Accessory: Yharim’s Insignia, Seraph Tracers, Elysian Aegis, Blood Pact, Fire Gauntlet, The Absorber, Celestial Shell
Signus, Envoy of the Devourer
- Weapon: Stellar Contempt
- Armor: Tarragon armor
- Accessory: Yharim’s Insignia, Seraph Tracers, Elysian Aegis, Blood Pact, Fire Gauntlet, The Absorber, Celestial Shell
Polterghast
- Weapon: True Tryant’s Ultisword
- Armor: Tarragon armor
- Accessory: Yharim’s Insignia, Seraph Tracers, Elysian Aegis, Blood Pact, Fire Gauntlet, The Absorber, Celestial Shell
Pre-Devourer of Gods
The Old Duke
- Weapon: Soul Edge
- Weapon: Terror Blade
- Armor: Bloodflare armor
- Accessory: Yharim’s Insignia, Seraph Tracers, Elysian Aegis, Flesh Totem, Fire Gauntlet, The Absorber, The Community
🛈 TIP: The Terror Blade comes out stronger in terms of DPS but you have to aim almost perfectly. On the other hand, the Soul Edge's projectiles are homing, which makes it a more reliable choice. The same thing applies to the Devourer of Gods.
The Devourer of Gods
- Weapon: Soul Edge
- Weapon: Terror Blade
- Armor: Bloodflare armor
- Accessory: Yharim’s Insignia, Seraph Tracers, Elysian Aegis, Flesh Totem, Fire Gauntlet, The Absorber, The Community
Pre-Yharon
Jungle Dragon, Yharon
- Weapon: Empyrean Knives
- Armor: God Slayer armor
- Accessory: The Community, Elysian Tracers, Asgardian Eegis, Core of the Blood God, Dark Sun Ring, Elemental Gauntlet, Rampart of Deities
🛈 TIP: The Slimy Saddleis a really great mount when you are fighting against Yharon. Fast movement throughout the fight is incredibly important.
Pre-Exo Mechs/Supreme Calamitas
Exo Mechs
- Weapon: The Oracle (against Apollo and Ares)
- Weapon: Dragon Rage (against Thantanos)
- Armor: Auric Tesla armor
- Accessory: Yoyo Bag, Celestial Tracers, Asgardian Aegis, The Sponge, Core of the Blood God, Elemental Gauntlet, Rampart of Deities
Supreme Calamitas
- Weapon: The Oracle (against Supreme Calamitas)
- Weapon: Muramasa (against Soul Seekers and Brimstone Hearts)
- Armor: Auric Tesla armor
- Accessory: Yoyo Bag, Celestial Tracers, Asgardian Aegis, The Sponge, Dark Sun Ring, Elemental Gauntlet, Rampart of Deities
Endgame
Adult Eidolon Wyrm
- Weapon: Tainted Elemental Excalibur
- Armor: Demonshade armor
- Accessory: Nebulous core, Celestial Tracers, Asgardian Aegis, The Sponge, Dark Sun Ring, Elemental Gauntlet, Rampart of Deities
NOTE: "Tainted" is an enchant that you can get from the Supreme Calamitas NPC when you defeat it. It removes the projectile shooting but in exchange two skeletal arms appears which works very well against the Adult Eidolon Wyrm.
Final words
Thank you for reading my guide! Maybe it’s not the best looking since this is my first guide ever, but I really tried to make it look good. The testing and writing took me around 5 days. I really hope that it will help you at some point. I’m planning to do a guide like this with every class. The next class is going to be the Ranger!
If you have any suggestions about the loadouts please leave a comment.
Thank you again, and good luck!

I found more success in using Pulse Dragon against the Dark Energies in the Ceaseless Void fight.
