Tailoring can be used to repair and improve clothing's resistance to bites, scratches and bullets. This Zombie Survivors Guide outlines the most effective clothing to wear in fighting against the undead and the best way to level up as of 41.73.

Introduction

Tailoring in Zomboid is a very useful skill that can increase your chances of survival in case you are ambushed by a Zombie horde. It reduces the likelihood of getting bitten, scratched or even killed in multiplayer. You can also use it to repair your clothes and accessories so you can still display your favorite style from your loot.

Levelling

While tailoring is easier in this patch, it's still quite difficult. To maximize XP gain, it is a good idea to first read the tailoring book.

Once you have your boosts, XP becomes easy.

  • Make strips and sheets from scrap clothes by ripping them.
  • Add padding to clothes. Ripped Sheets can be used to protect your stronger fabrics.
  • You can remove the padding to gain a little more XP.

Fabrics

There are three types to choose from. All start at a low +1 or 2.2% scratch/bite resistance. This will increase as you get better at Tailoring.

T-shirts and sweaters can be repaired using ripped sheets. Denim strips fix jeans, denim jackets, and leather stripes are for certain leather items.

Best Clothes

Tailoring's effectiveness is due to the ability to stack your patched clothing. Layers can be worn over each others to increase resistance to armour or heavy clothes like the Fireman’s outfit. It not only makes you look great but also makes you extremely hot!

If you are just starting:

  • Summer is best when you have lots of body part slots to patch.
  • High Insulation can be helpful in winter, but you should be careful not to sweat as it can lead to illness.
