This guide is intended for Describe the storage system to new players
The Farthest Frontier also contains tips and tricks for optimizing storage, reducing spoilage, and minimizing long travel times.

This reading is mainly directed towards new players and players who are having trouble Optimizing their storage space in their city(s)

As with any other Early Access-game, All of this information can be changed I will be reading through the patch notes to ensure that this guide remains up-to date so you can all benefit.

Okay, let’s get started.

Storing Resources

You won’t be able to access all resources immediately as they are often locked behind production buildings in the lower tiers. You will still have access to many of the raw materials you need to stock up before production can begin.

Raw Materials

Resources that are not refined are those that are found around the globe. They can later be used to make other materials in many different ways.

For example: Wood, Stone, Iron, Herbs, etc.

Food

This is probably the most important aspect of any stage of the game. It includes both raw and processed versions. Proper storage will be essential as food can spoil at a slower pace.

For example: Meat, Fish, Berries, Bread, etc.

Produced Materials

Materials that are made or refined from the Raw Materials mentioned before are essential for building and upgrading your community as well as creating more specific items.

For example: Planks, Firewood, Bricks, Flour, etc.

Usable Items

The last category is basically the final production stage of any of your materials. These items are used to help your workers survive, gather and produce more resources.

For example: Clothing, Tools, Beer, Soap, etc.

Storage Buildings

Most of the time, you have access all storage options from the beginning. However, at the moment, you will need to build them in the order they are best.

Storage cart

This is the first storage building you’ll find as you start the game. It has a low to moderate storage capacity, but it can store anything. It can also be moved by clicking the wheel icon.

It is great for early game storage but also for building materials storage. Your workers won’t have as far to travel to move the cart closer than a construction or upgrade site to retrieve it.

Use for Early game storage/ Raw Materials/ Usable Items

Don’t use for Food / Raw Material (Later Game

Stockyard

The Stockyard is essentially the same as the Storage Cart but has slightly more storage space, but is immobile.

It is useful for early game storage. If you intend to use the building for this purpose, it is important to plan for the layout.

Use for: Raw and Produced Materials

Don’t use for Food

Root Cellar

The Root Cellar can be used to store some herbs and food items.

It is highly efficient in storing food and should always be the first choice.

Use for All Perishable (Mainly food / herbs)

Don’t use for: n/a

Storehouse

The Storehouse is the largest storage facility in the bunch

It is useful for early game storage. If you intend to use the building for this purpose, it is important to plan for the layout.

Use for: Raw Materials/Produced Materials/Usable Items

Don’t use for – Food Storage (Unless your Root Cellar is ready)

Storage Tips & Optimization

There are several ways to optimize your storage to make it run more efficiently. I will continue updating this section as updates are made / more tips are added.

Assigning Storage

It is easy to a*sign storage to buildings by clicking the checkbox at top left corner of each resource. You can turn storage on/off at any given building.

This is something I already mentioned in the buildings section. I will however list storage recommendations below for each building. Simply uncheck all except items that are listed below for each structure.

Root Cellar All it can store (, Mainly Food and Herbs

Storehouse Raw Materials, Produced Products and Usable Item

Storage Locations

It is important to determine the location of your Storage locations in relation to your production or distribution. This is especially important when it comes to food.

It is easy to place your storage anywhere in the middle between your production and distribution, as shown in the image below. If it is not in the middle, move it closer to production. This will increase your production and distribution.
