The economy of owned trailers

There is a small extra profit of approx. 1% by using your own trailer instead of borrowed trailers, but remember that you also have to pay for maintenance and repairs of the trailer.

Let’s look at the economy in one of the jobs I have tested with my own trailer.
For the experiment, I bought a new curtain side trailer that costs by default
€ 44410
However, at the time of purchase I chose to make some upgrades to this trailer, so the final price was 86985 €

On the freight and cargo market, I found two similar job, both jobs were from Drekkar trans in Odense to Norrfood in Växjö, a trip of 422 km, and the reward for both jobs was stated to be 16.232 €
But when I had delivered the goods, I got 17.969 € in reward.
Then I drove to the nearest workshop and had the wear and tear on the trailer repaired which cost 90 €
Now we have the data necessary to identify how much I on this trip got in extra income by using my own trailer:
17.969-16.232-90 = 1.647 €
We can also calculate that on that job I have received 3.90 € (rounded) extra per. km for this load, and thus we can also calculate that if I always chose jobs in that price range, the extra reward after 22.304 km will have earned the price I paid for the trailer, after which the extra income after each trip with the trailer will be pure profit when wear and tear and damage is deducted from.

Now it must also be remembered that the trailer was almost twice as expensive as a standard curtain side trailer, and that dry milk is certainly not among the highest paid jobs
If I had just bought a standard trailer, and chosen a job offer with a better reward, we would probably get a calculation where the trailer is paid even faster by the extra reward of using your own trailer.

With the many hours and many thousands of ETS2 km I have behind me, my conclusion must therefore be that if you want to use the trailer a lot, it is financially worth buying your own trailer.

Company look

Cosmetically, it looks good when the same paint job is used on both truck and trailer and fortunately there are some company paint jobs built into the basic game that can be used on both the truck and on some of the trailers, and most of these company paint jobs you can even change the colors.

So if you want your truck and trailer to have a company look, it worth to buy your own trailers.

Increase the number of different job opportunities

As you know, there are 4 job markets:
Quick jobs where you borrow both truck and trailer and ordinary freight market where you borrow a trailer … These 2 markets offer identical jobs from the city where you are with your own truck.

For own trailers there is Freight market and Cargo market and the vast majority of the jobs offered in these 2 markets are different from both each other and from the jobs offered in the market for borrowed trailers.

This means that with a selection of different own trailers you can get a significantly larger and more varied selection of job offers to choose from, which can be very useful when trying to complete certain achievements.

Own trailers increase the chance of finding jobs for achievements

Some achievements require you to deliver a specific type of freight, or deliver to specific companies or cities.

For such achievements, it is a great advantage to be able to apply for jobs in all 3 markets, as there is a difference in which jobs they offer.

Moreover, in this context, it is also an advantage to know how to teleport, which should not be confused with fast travel.

Just to clarify the difference between the two things:
Teleporting is traveling from one place on the map to another without spending driving time on it, which means that a job offer in the opposite corner of the map is still there after you have teleported to the place where the job is.

Fast travel uses the same driving time as if you drive the trip yourself, which means that a job offer will often have expired when you reach the place where the job offer was when you saw it on the freight market.

There are 2 ways you can teleport:
If you own 2 garages or more, you in the driver manager can move yourself to an empty space in another garage and do the same with your truck in the truck manager. Thereby teleporting you to the other garage and making it your headquarters.

The second way to teleport requires you to use console commands:

The technique is now that you are looking for a suitable job in all 3 markets …
If there is no suitable job for either the borrowed trailer or the trailers you have, you just take another job which has a maximum driving time of approx. 8 hours.
If necessary, you will now teleport to the city from which to start your achievement job and search again for a suitable job in all markets.
Still no luck? Sleep, and start all over again with job search .. Take a short job etc … until you are lucky.

In addition, console commands have another command that can be useful to use in this context, which @Erik Taurus has reminded me of: the command g_set_time n.n – Thanks for the tip Erik 🙂

It is my experience that the following trailer models are best to have for achievements:
Flatbed with pins.
Curtain side or box trailer.
