This guide will show you how to increase your performance for “Mafia: Definitive Edition” on a low-end computer.
I’ve bought the game some days ago but wasn’t able to play it because of massive frame drops, stuttering & freezing.
I show you everything I did. This fixed like 90% of the stuttering and boosted my FPS from 40 to 70.
My System
I will show you my system specs first.
Everything in this guide worked for me and my system.

- Mainboard: ASUS P6T-SE (LGA1366)
- CPU: Intel Xeon X5660 (OC) @ 3,3 Ghz
- RAM: 12 GB (DDR3-1333) (3x4GB)
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950
Graphics Card Driver
Make sure you’ve installed the newest driver for your graphics card.
In-Game Settings
MY DISPLAY SETTINGS
Note: I’ve decreased the field of view a little bit for more performance.
NVIDIA Control Panel Settings
Open up your NVIDIA Control Panel Settings
On your Desktop: Right-Click -> NVIDIA Control Panel
Click “Manage 3D Settings” on the left side.
Go to Program Settings and add your Mafia .exe file there!
Now you have to change some settings down below.
You will find many options there. Here is a list what I changed.
- Image Sharpening: OFF
- Low Latency Mode: OFF
- OpenGL rendering GPU: GeForce GTX 950
- (SELECT THE GPU YOU ARE USING!)
- Power management mode: Prefer maximum performance
- Shader Cache: ON
- Texture filtering – Anisotropic sample optimization: ON
- Texture filtering – Quality: High performance
- Texture filtering – Trilinear optimization: ON
- Threaded optimization: ON
- Vertical sync: OFF
Disable Windows Game Mode & Captures
Go to your “Windows Settings” and select “Gaming”.
Select “Xbox Game Bar”.
Scroll down to “Related Settings”.
Click “Graphics Settings”.
Select “Desktop App” -> “Browse” -> Select your Mafia .exe file!
Select your newly added .exe and click “Options”.
Now select “High Performance” and save.
Go back to your “Gaming Settings” and select “Captures”.
Set “Record in background while I’m playing a game” to “OFF”.
Now select “Game Mode” and turn it “OFF”.
Disable Fullscreen Optimization
Doing this will run the game way smoother!
Go to your “Mafia Game Folder” where your “mafiadefinitiveedition.exe” is located.
Right Click on it and Properties. Now select “Compatibility” and then select “Disable Fullscreen Optimization”.
