Counter-Strike: Global Offensive CSGO How to have an animated custom menu background for CS:GO

1 – Choosing your video/animation and downloading it

The first step of this easy tutorial is to choose the video you want to use as background.

Browse youtube with keyword as “free loop background” or “free loop animation”. Remeber that your file must not be too long, as converting it to the right format might take to long. (betwenn 30 seconds and 2 minutes)

The next obvious step is to download it as an MP4 file using any website you want.

2 – Downloading webm converter

The second part of this guide is about downloading webm converter. It will allow you to convert the MP4 file to a file that CS:GO will be able to read and show in-game.

Follow this github link: https://github.com/WebMBro/WebMConverter/releases
Simplyclick on “WebMConverter.zip” to sart the download.

WebMConverter is a light and free to use software. If you do not trust me about this software, run your antivirus on it to verify that it is virus-free.

When your are done downloading the file, unzip both the .exe file and the folder and put it in the same folder (it can be anywhere but I recommend placing it on your desktop)

3 – Converting your file to the right format

The third part of this guide will show you how to properly convert your MP4 file to a WebM file. Open WebMconverter.exe and follow these easy steps.

1. Navigate your directory to locate your MP4 file and open it in the software
2. Force the resolution to 1280 x 720 (maybe 1920 x 1080 also works but I’m not shure)
3. Choose a Bitrate between 10000 and 30000, higher Bitrate means better quality, but also longer time to render
4. Check the box “Enable high quality mode” It makes the render way better but also a bit longer.
5. Click convert and wait until the end of the render.

Once the render is finished, your pop-up window should look just like that:

If everithing went right, you are ready to proceed to the last step.

4 – Placing your new file in your CS:GO folder

It’s finally time to place your files in your csgo folder! Locate the appropriate folder following this route: D:\Programmes (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo\panorama\videos

Warning: your CS:GO folder maybe located on your C: drive or any other drive depending on where you installed it.

Remember, all this is VAC-free and totally allowed by valve. It’s like changing your font or using a custom radar with callouts.

To actually use you background, you will need to create 3 copies of your file that will replace existing csgo files. The three copies should be named like this:

• nuke.webm
• nuke540p.webm
• nuke720p.webm

This will replace the nuke background soif you want to replace another background, use anubis, vertigo, blacksite or ancient.

Close your game if it was running and replace the original files by the ones you’ve just created and the result should look like this:

Once you’re done, start csgo and change the background to whatever map you have replaced and enjoy!
