Tips and Tricks for Volcanoids – How to interact the Tesla Turrets

Learn the most effective ways to get rid of pesky Tesla Turrets.

Introduction

If you are here you probably dislike Tesla turrets like I do.

They make you slower, delete projectiles. And can never be taken by surprise.

I have put together a list of multiple methods that are very effective for removing these modules.

Data were collected at the Hard difficulty.

Non-projectile firing

Accessibility: Easy

Effectiveness: Low

Firstly, there is the option of just shooting at the turret. This method takes advantage of the fact that turrets are not able to fire down light weapons. However, it can be dangerous because light guns are weak. Also, if you are surrounded, focusing your fire on the turret will easily melt your shield. The easiest way to do it is to back up and shoot outside the range of a turret. Just watch out for ambushers.

PROS:

-A very cheap ammunition

-Can do outside turret effective range

CONS:

-Very slow

You are extremely vulnerable

2: Battle drones

Accessibility: Medium

Effectiveness: low to high

Drones represent a new concept in which the player can construct modules to manufacture drones. The player will then be able to call these drones into the battlefield, where they can replenish ammo or shield, provide health, and increase firepower. This counter works when you call a turret-shooting drone (the Rattlesnake will work well) and place it directly in front. This method works similarly to 1 -, but allows the player to focus on other COGs.

PROS:

-High damages from weapons such as Gatling Guns and Rattlesnakes

-Automated, (once the drone calls)

CONS:

-Drillships should be surfaced in order for the drone to work.

AI may choose another target

-Drones may be destroyed when there are a lot of COGs

3: Melee plus Support

Accessibility: Medium

Effectiveness: High

This strategy has proven to be reliable and can help eliminate turrets quickly without any strings attached. The concept behind this is simple. Call in a support Drone to be next to the Turret. Use the drillship to cover yourself and make your approach to it. Then, you can use a turret-crushing melee weapon, and the support helicopter will heal. This method is most effective if the COGs prevent you from using your other weapons. It makes you nearly invincible if you spam heals. This method is only ruined if you destroy the support drone. Then, you are as good a dead as a turret (unless it is almost destroyed). This can easily be resolved by making more turret and support drones.

PROS:

No chance involved

-Gives ship access after destruction (doesn’t work with lasers)

CONS:

-Too Many Cogs can easily overwhelm You

Fixing the first flaw can require lots of resources, planning and effort

Hacking

Accessibility: Hard

Effectiveness: Incredible

If you’re not aware, there’s an item called “Hacking Tool”, that allows you open/close the modules of enemy ships/lasers. It is available from T3 production. But it can be looted out of T3 tanks. It is hard to find early on, but it is powerful against Tesla turrets. The turret will be down if you hold LMB (left mouse button) for about 15 second.

PROS:

-Reliable

-Quick

-Can do from range

CONS:

-Late-game

-Easy get overwhelmed by too many COGs

5: Anti-Materiel Ammo

Accessibility is very difficult

Effectiveness: Incredible

The new ammunition added by the update to the tesla Turrets has been designed specifically to counteract it. It takes a lot of time and resources, but it’s a fairly late game. You can take down turrets using this and the hacking gadget.

PROS:

-Quick

Can be done from very long distance

-Reliable

CONS:

-Needs expensive ammunition

-Late-game
