A list of Missing or Altered content compared to the original releases of the games in this collection.

Introduction

This collection features the vast majority of content from the original releases of all 6 games. However, some of this content has been altered or is missing altogether. This guide aims to sort this information out in one place.

Zero Series Missing Content

In Zero 3, the Mega Man/Rockman.EXE crossover content available when traveling into the digital world is missing.

The original Zero Legacy Collection on DS featured a unique pre-title screen cutscene, as well as special portraits that would display on the bottom screen. These are all missing from this collection during gameplay. In fact, the bottom screen is missing entirely from the Zero series despite compatibility for it in the ZX series.

Zero Series Altered Content

The original release of the Zero series games featured a lower quality OST and various sounds in lower quality, and certain effects such as flashing effects on bosses when taking damage were different. This was improved on in the DS collection, and these changes were preserved in this collection. The translation from the DS collection also appears to have been preserved.

The original DS Collection featured an exclusive “Easy Scenario” mode that allowed you to play through all 4 Zero games in sequence at an easier difficulty. This has technically been preserved in this collection, however it has been modified into the “Casual Scenario” mode which does not automatically transition from one game to the next in sequence, and now also features the ZX series games.

Zero 3 and Zero 4 feature a series of minigames, each with their own unlock conditions. In this collection, you can unlock them easily by simply completing a playthrough of the game you wish to play the minigames of in Casual Scenario mode, however they will remain locked while Casual Scenario is disabled unless you have completed the necessary unlock conditions while playing with Casual Scenario disabled.

The original version of Zero 4 featured an Easy Mode, which could exist alongside the other difficulties on the file select menu for loading and saving data. This has been merged into Casual Scenario mode in this collection, and has it’s own file select screen.

ZX Series Missing Content

In the original release of ZX Advent, there was an unlockable minigame titled “Gem Buster” which was similar to a minigame from the first ZX titled “Energy Converter”, however it featured PvP elements between two players playing on two different DS’s. The minigame was playable even if only one of the two players had a copy of ZX Advent. This competitive minigame is missing from the collection.

ZX Series Altered Content

In ZX, the original release on DS could identify your birthday based on the settings saved onto your DS, and used this information to reward you with a cake when you talked to a certain NPC in town. This content still exists in this collection but has been altered to ignore the date, and so you can always receive the cake if you don’t already have one and the necessary NPC is in town.

The original DS version of ZX featured two special rooms in Area N. These rooms functioned depending on whether or not you had a copy of Zero 3 or Zero 4 in the GBA slot. Having one of these games inserted would allow you to fight four of the bosses from that game by entering the corresponding room. This content has been preserved, however you simply “link” ZX to either Zero 3 or Zero 4 on the game select menu to enable the door of your choice.

Both of the original releases of ZX and ZX Advent featured Easy Mode, featuring reduced difficulty. Save data in Easy Mode could exist alongside other difficulty modes on the file select menu. In this collection, Easy Mode has been split off into Casual Scenario mode, which has it’s own file select for saving and loading data entirely separate from the other difficulties.

The original DS version of ZX required you to beat the game as both Vent and Aile on normal or higher difficulty and then start a new file while still having both clear data’s to keep Model X. This remains intact with Casual Scenario disabled, however in this collection you can simply do a single playthrough as either Vent or Aile in Casual Scenario and save your clear data to keep Model X in your follow up playthrough while still in Casual Scenario.

Both Series Altered Content

The new addition of the Save-Assist system allows the player to toggle on and off special checkpoints across all 6 games. With these checkpoints enabled, the player will always respawn at the most recently touched checkpoint with full health when dying and you won’t even lose a life. The checkpoints also refill Weapon Energy in the ZX series games. The player can also choose to respawn at the currently active checkpoint whenever they want, and can also load to it from the title screen of the current game.

This allows players to bypass the lives system, as well as potential for various other purposes, sometimes even likely unintended such as resetting the lava in Area K in ZX. As such, this is “Altered Content” in the sense that it changes how the player interfaces with the main gameplay of each game.

Save-Assist can be enabled regardless of difficulty setting, and features no penalty for being enabled.
