Guide on how to defeat (or when to avoid) various bosses as you descend the dungeon.

Introduction

This guide was created to provide tactics on how to defeat, or perhaps avoid, bosses and dangerous enemies in Legend of Dungeon, whilst also not spoiling the reader on what to expect in the table of contents. The loot available from each enemy and boss has been hidden in a further effort to reduce spoilers. All the bosses covered in this guide have been written in the order that you encounter them in the dungeon, with the sections then separating the points at which difficulty of the bosses increases. I would encourage you to only read up to as far as you have explored in the dungeon yourself, as there is fun in not knowing what to expect.

Implied Information
Before I explain anything else, I will go over some things that are relevant to the whole guide.
Firstly, every enemy that counts as a boss will create a gold portal on death, which spews gold coins around the room. Secondly, any reference to a “safe space” will mean either a tight corridor that can act as a choke point or somewhere two or more blocks above ground level. Which of these two I mean will depend on whether the enemy is large/numerous or incapable of flight respectively.

Related Achievements
There are two related achievements to bosses; one for defeating every boss and another for defeating all of them in one run. Usually, if you are strong enough to defeat the last boss in a run, you will be capable of defeating all the other bosses too, so these achievements tend to come hand in hand.

Early Floors

The Early Floors are of course the easiest floors, and thus the ones with the easiest bosses. Many of them will be good to defeat for their exp and gold, but some may also have useful items to help in your adventure.

Snake Warlock

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Summary
The Snake Warlock is the first boss, found somewhere around floor 2. Deeper in the dungeon, you will encounter them as regular enemies, but they drop the same loot. Their only attack is periodically summoning snakes that do 1-2 damage each.

Strategy
The Snake Warlock is fairly easy to fight; focus on attacking the Warlock rather than the snakes.

They are also easily avoided; they don’t give chase and the snakes are not fast. Be careful not to allow the snakes to crowd around a doorway, as this may prevent you from leaving it.

Loot

  • Snake summoning book
  • Confusion book
  • Snake (weapon)

The Snake Warlock is guaranteed to drop one of the above, but they are all weak items. The snake book makes friendly snakes, the confusion book can’t kill enemies directly and the snake weapon has just 1 base damage, but summons a snake for every hit you land.

Vampire

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Summary
The Vampire is the next boss, and they are found around floor 3. They can be encountered on later floors behind a wall, but will otherwise be the same. They begin attacking by walking up to you, and deal a small amount of damage. After some time, they transform into a swarm of bats that deal 4-6 damage each, eventually transforming back into their human form. This attack pattern repeats until all the bats in their second phase are defeated.

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Strategy
The Vampire is impossible to kill in their human form, you must force them to transform by drawing their attention and then running away. Once they transform, stand in a safe space and kill as many bats as you can. You do not need to kill all of them immediately, as the game remembers how many were defeated.

Due to how slow the Vampire is and the fact that they can’t be a swarm of bats forever, this boss is easy to run around and avoid.

Loot

  • Random potion

They drop a single random potion, the effects may or may not be beneficial.

Beholder

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Summary
The Beholder is found around floor 5. They resemble another enemy later in the dungeon, but are purple and spawn mushroom monsters that deal a small amount of damage. They can also attack you directly for roughly 20 damage.

Strategy
The Beholder is not a strong boss, but can be difficult to kill. They will often be in tall rooms, and as they spawn the mushroom monsters, the Beholder gets pushed upwards, typically too high for them to see you. If this happens, you must either use a magic book to gain their attention, climb or jump high enough to hit them, or run away. Luckily this problem also makes them easy to avoid.

Loot

  • None discovered

The Beholder doesn’t appear to drop any items, making them easily skip-able.

Lich

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Summary
The Lich is found around floor 6, and they are the hardest boss of the Early Floors. They begin by summoning an army of Skeletons and Skeleton Warriors, and will periodically replenish them. After some time or from the Lich taking enough damage, their skeletons will begin to deal more damage and move faster. The Lich can also attack you directly, dealing a small amount of damage.

Strategy
The Lich has a high defence stat, so unless you can normally deal at least 40 damage per hit, you should avoid them. You will not lose much health if you need to run past them.

If you have the power to fight, attack the Lich directly as much as possible. Melee is the fastest and most effective method. Magic missile spells should only be used from a safe space, and most summoned creatures won’t be strong enough to deal damage to the Lich. The Lich does take damage from fire, so using something like the flare gun or fire traps will slowly kill them.
Loot

  • Summoning book for Skeletons, Skeleton Warriors, Sentinels or a Cyclops
  • Crown

The Lich drops either a summoning book or their crown, both of which are strong items. The summoning book can create either Skeletons, Skeleton Warriors, Sentinels or a Cyclops. The crown provides up to 60 defence.

Goblin King

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Summary
The Goblin King is the last boss of the Early Floors, found around floor 7. They can be encountered on later floors behind a wall, but will otherwise be the same. They spawn an army of goblins just once when you approach them. They attack directly, dealing roughly 14 damage per hit.

Strategy
The Goblin King is easier to defeat if you kill their goblins first. The goblins are no different from any others in the dungeon, so do not pose a challenge.

Avoiding this boss is not difficult, but you may take a small amount of damage running away from the goblins. Be careful not to let them crowd around a doorway, as it will be difficult to leave if they do.

Loot

  • None discovered

The Goblin King doesn’t appear to drop any items, but you can get a few hats from their goblins.

Middle Floors

The Middle Floor’s bosses are stronger than those before them, and as result their loot is better. Do not rely on obtaining it though, as these items are not guaranteed to drop and not all characters can use them.

Pharaoh

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Summary
The Pharaoh is found around floor 9. They can be encountered on later floors behind a wall, but will otherwise be the same. They periodically spawn mummies to attack you, and also attack directly themselves. They deal roughly 20 damage, have around 200 hp and move very slowly, making them nearly identical to mummies.

Strategy
Like other bosses that spawn enemies, focus on dealing damage to the Pharaoh first. The Pharaoh may fly around the room when spawning mummies, separating them from their mummies.

If you are still not capable of dealing much damage, avoiding this boss is easier than fighting. Due to their extremely slow speed, you only need to worry about mummies crowding a doorway.

Loot

  • Nemes

The Pharaoh can drop the Nemes on death, a hat with 20 base defence, but it is not guaranteed.

Minotaur (Boss)

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Summary
The Minotaur is found around floor 10. They resemble Minotaurs deeper in the dungeon, but these ones are less red and count as bosses. They deal 24 damage per hit, have a small amount of natural defence and are about as fast as you. They also swing their weapon more frequently than any boss previously encountered.

Strategy
The Minotaur has no special attacks, making combat with them fairly simple. For melee, a medium range weapon and high attack is recommended. Magic books can be used from a safe space, but you will need either a strong summon or to have multiple magic missiles target the Minotaur at once in order to damage them.

The Minotaur’s speed makes them difficult to outrun, so you should wait for them to turn away before running past them.

Loot

  • Strength of the Minotaur

The Minotaur drops a single potion that gives a permanent +30 attack, making it perhaps the best boss loot. I recommend you search the entire floor for more of these Minotaurs so you can increase your attack further.

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Unicorn

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Summary
The Unicorn is found around floor 14. Their only attack is a charge across the room, and they always make a distinct sound before doing so. The charge does a constant 25 damage to anything in their way, friend or foe.&nbnbsp;

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

The Unicorn will always run to line themselves up with you before attacking, then charge directly to the left or right. Mid-charge they will ignore gravity and occasionally change direction.

Strategy
Since the Unicorn has only one attack, combat with this boss is also very simple. No matter what your main weapon is, the strategy is the same; avoid the Unicorn by moving up or down when it charges, then attack it when it stops.

Avoiding the Unicorn is very similar to fighting it; just run around it when it finishes charging.

Loot

  • Unicorn Hammer

The Unicorn sometimes drops the Unicorn Hammer on death. It is the second strongest melee weapon with around 189 base damage. It provides a small amount of light and creates particles when swung. Due to its high damage, this weapon is useful to every character.

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Devil

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Summary
The Devil is the last boss of the middle floors, and is found around floor 18. They are very large and behave similarly to the Minotaur, dealing around 24 damage. However, after swinging their hammer they will create a fiery portal that spawns various demonic enemies from the recent floors.

Strategy
Whilst the Devil resembles the Minotaur, it requires more firepower to overcome. Strong melee attacks will be able to kill them and their minions before too many are spawned. Magic books are not recommended unless they have high damage potential and you can use them from a safe space (the flaming skulls spell also works well here). Other long range weapons are very effective; killing the Devil before they swing their hammer makes them much easier to defeat.

Avoiding this boss is again similar to the Minotaur, except you will want to avoid being close enough to them that they swing their hammer.

Loot

  • Book of the Devil

The Devil is guaranteed to drop their summoning book on death. The book spawns friendly succubi that are effective against the Devil amongst other late game enemies. This is a strong summoning book, but should not completely replace any others you have.

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Final Floors

The Final Floors have only two bosses, and despite their difficulty they are the least rewarding to defeat. I recommend avoiding both of these bosses, and so will discuss methods to do so before strategies to defeat them.

Robot

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Summary
The Robot is the second to last boss and is found around floor 22. They float around the room,
spawn walking robots and flying droids to attack the player, both of which are faster than those normally found in the dungeon, but deal roughly the same damage. The Robot can also attack directly, dealing a lot of damage.

Strategy
Only attempt to run past the Robot if no other routes lead to the stairs. At this point in the dungeon, you should have picked up some items that boost your speed (the coffee cup hat is the best). Use as many of these as possible to run past the Robot, as the longer you are in the same room with them, the more smaller robots and droids they will spawn. Summons may provide a good distraction against the droids if you do not have many speed upgrades.

If you feel strong enough to fight the Robot, focus your attacks on the Robot themselves, as they will periodically spawn more minions. Guns will quickly kill the Robot; it only takes a few well aimed shots. Alternatively, you can use strong magic books like the red magic missile or the Book of the Devil from a safe space. Melee is risky, but achievable with a longish range weapon with high damage.

Loot

  • None discovered

The Robot does not seem to drop any items. At the very least, you will gain a lot of exp from them and their minions, and thus some extra health and damage for the remaining floors.

Cursed Skull

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Summary
The Cursed Skull is the final boss of the dungeon and by far the most dangerous. They are found on floor 26, often between you and the treasure. They float around the room, spawn Enchanted Skeletons and attack directly with pink magic missiles that deal extremely high damage. They also have high defence, negating roughly 20 damage from any attack.

Strategy
Since the Cursed Skull behaves similarly to the Robot, a lot of the strategies are the same. The key difference is that everything the Cursed Skull does is slightly slower but much stronger.

Attempting to run past Enchanted Skeletons can potentially cost hundreds of hp, so you will need the best speed upgrades and to know where to run to in order to avoid them. The Enchanted Skeletons cannot fly and the pink magic missiles are not spawned if the Cursed Skull has not seen you, so jumping is an effective way around them especially if you are not very quick. Using a morph spell book to change the Cursed Skull into another enemy is the safest option, but may be difficult to aim properly.

For most characters, guns are your best choice for defeating the Cursed Skull. A few well aimed shots from a distance will kill them, potentially before they have a chance to spawn Enchanted Skeletons. The Grim Reaper summoning book or the Necromancer’s powered up summons are the only kinds of offensive magic that are effective against them, and even then you need a safe space to summon them from. Do not attempt melee unless you are extremely familiar with both combat in LoD and the speed of the Enchanted Skeletons; this is one of the quickest ways to get yourself killed.

Loot

  • None discovered

Even if this boss dropped any items, it’s not like you’d need them on the final floor anyway. Defeating the Cursed Skull contributes to the two achievements related to bosses, which is the closest thing to a reward you will get.

Dangerous Enemies

This final section is a list of the most dangerous enemies you will encounter descending deep into the dungeon. You may prefer to avoid many of these, especially if you are under-powered. Do note that many of these enemies can spawn from doorways, provided the enemy is not too large.

Giant Red Slime (and Enchanted Skeletons)

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Summary
The Giant Red Slime behaves very much like the Giant Green Slime found on floor 1. However, they are faster and release an Enchanted Skeleton when defeated. The Giant Red Slime can be found as early as floor 13.

Enchanted Skeletons resemble regular ones, but move much faster and deal roughly 70 damage per hit. They are only ever encountered in Giant Red Slimes or spawned from the Cursed Skull.

Strategy
Since the Enchanted Skeleton is trapped inside the Slime until you defeat it, I recommend avoiding both of them. Luckily this is not too difficult as the Slime is slightly slower than you.
If you choose to fight them, kill the Enchanted Skeleton quickly and before the smaller Slimes. High melee damage, magic missiles or summons will allow you to defeat the Skeleton without taking much damage. The remaining smaller Slimes will not present a challenge.

Loot

  • 100+ Gold

Defeating the big Slime drops gold, but the new smaller Slimes will pick it all up, requiring you to defeat all Slimes to get it. The Enchanted Skeleton drops only a few exp orbs on death.

Eye

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Summary
The Eye moves very quickly when it has spotted you, but is otherwise slow. They deal around 50 damage on contact, and release a magic missile that deals 40 damage every time they are hurt. They are first found around floor 18, but can rarely be behind walls on earlier floors.

Strategy
The Eye has relatively low health compared to other dangerous enemies, so a couple of strong melee attacks should be enough to defeat them. Summons with more than 40 hp can swarm around and kill them, and fiery magic missiles both damage the Eye and destroy the missiles the Eye creates. If you want to avoid this enemy, use any speed upgrades you have and run past them without damaging them.

Loot

  • None discovered

The Eye doesn’t appear to drop anything other than a few exp orbs on death.

Deep Minotaur

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Summary
The Deep Minotaur resembles the boss found around floor 10, except they are redder, bigger, not bosses and deals significantly more damage (roughly 100). They behave almost Identically to the other Minotaurs. They are first found around floor 18, but can rarely be behind walls on earlier floors.

Strategy
Fighting this enemy is much more dangerous than the Minotaur boss, but a long range, high damage melee weapon and rapid attacks can defeat them before they have a chance to attack. Otherwise, guns and powerful spell books are needed to deal any damage. Avoiding them is similar to the Minotaur boss; run past them when they look the other way.

Loot

  • Cora’s Book of Minotaurs

Deep Minotaurs sometimes drop Cora’s Book of Minotaurs, which allows you to summon one friendly Minotaur for a limited time. However this Minotaur has stats closer to the Minotaur boss than the Minotaur you obtained the book from. Strangely this Minotaur drops exp on death, giving you a way to gain levels without fighting enemies.

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Grim Reaper

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Summary
The Grim Reaper moves extremely quickly when it notices you, but is otherwise very slow. They do not swing their weapon as frequently as other enemies, but deal roughly 126 damage when they do. They are first found around floor 23, and are the most dangerous enemy that can spawn from doorways.

Strategy
I recommend avoiding this enemy at all costs; use a combination of speed upgrades and high jumps to dodge their attack. Fighting them in melee will cost you hundreds of hp, so you will need extremely high damage to finish them off quickly. Guns can be hard to aim at them, but are just as good here as against any other enemy. Standing two blocks above them and using either strong magic missiles or a strong summon is the best way to kill them.

Loot

  • Scythe
  • Grim Reaper summoning book

The Grim Reaper may drop either one of these items on death, but it is extremely unlikely they will. The Scythe is a melee weapon with long reach and 200 base damage, and the book allows you to have 3 friendly Grim Reapers summoned at a time.
Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Wraiths (and Kitten Wraiths)

Legend of Dungeon Bosses and Dangerous Enemies

Summary
The Wraith flies at you very quickly when it sees you, but is otherwise slow. They deal roughly 56 damage per hit, ignoring the defence of your current hat and equipment. They have less than 100 hp, and are first found around floor 14.

Kitten Wraiths are nearly identical to regular Wraiths, but only spawn in groups of nine when a cat dies. They have well over 1000 hp, making them stronger than any other creature in the dungeon.

Strategy
Despite their relatively low hp, I would not recommend fighting Wraiths in melee; they can hit you even when they do not seem close enough to. If do get hit, keep attacking them to finish them off before they can damage you again. Using magic missiles is a safer strategy, but will require you to make a few in quick succession or to surprise attack them in order to actually hit them. Wraiths will often float to the top of tall rooms, making them easy to avoid. It is also possible to outrun them with some speed upgrades.

Kitten Wraiths are difficult to both fight and avoid, so I recommend preventing them from being made in the first place. If you see a cat in a room, quickly run to grab it before doing anything else. Since Slimes can pick cats up, you should avoid fighting any that have done so or risk hitting the cat. Running from or fighting Kitten Wraiths follows a similar strategy to normal Wraiths, but their large numbers and high hp make both significantly harder to do.

Loot

  • None discovered

Wraiths drop no items on death, but give a fairly large amount of exp.
However Kitten Wraiths do not even give exp, only guilt and regret.
