How to Fix UE5 Stuttering and FPS Drops in Lords of the Fallen
Let’s Tweak Those Engine Settings!
Alright, first things first. Pop open that file explorer of yours and follow this path:
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\LOTF2\Saved\Config\Windows
Got it? Great! Now find the Engine.ini file and open it up.
Scroll down to the bottom and paste some special commands there. You can find these commands in the links below. Just choose based on whether you want high or low-quality graphics:
UE4/5 Stutter Fix | High Quality Graphics [pastes.io]
UE4/5 Stutter Fix | Low Quality Graphics [pastes.io]
Heads up, though! This isn’t a magic potion. It might not work, but hey, it’s helped with other UE4/5 games before. If the game acts all cheeky and removes the commands, just right-click on the Engine.ini file, go to Properties, hit General, and tick the Read-only box.
And oh, shoutout to the good samaritan who shared these tweaks on Reddit. You can find the original post here.
A Few More Tricks Up the Sleeve
If you’re in the mood for some extra magic, here are a few more commands you can add:
[/script/engine.renderersettings]
r.CreateShadersOnLoad=1
r.HZBOcclusion=2
r.SkinCache.CompileShaders=1
General Game Settings – Keep It Smooth!
Okay, back in the game, do this:
1 – Go to settings and pick DX12/Vulkan over DX11 for your rendering API. Trust me, it usually performs better.
2 – Also, if you’re using extra programs like GeForce Experience or Steam, disable their overlays. They’re like that friend who talks too much during a movie—distracting!
Steam Users, Listen Up!
If you’ve got the game on Steam, here’s what you need to do:
Right-click on the game and pick Properties. You’ll see a field that says “Launch Options.” Paste one of these commands depending on how beefy your VRAM is:
For those with less VRAM:
-xgeshadercompile -nothreadtimeout
And for the 8GB+ VRAM club:
-xgeshadercompile -nothreadtimeout -NoVerifyGC
If you’ve cracked the code on fixing any texturing issues, drop a comment and help a friend out. I’ll make sure to update this guide!
