This is a guide on how to fix the delayed/skipped dialogue when playing the PS2 port of Deus Ex, Deus Ex: The Conspiracy, when emulating using PCSX2.
 
 

How to Fix the Delayed Audio

Note: This was tested using the US copy of the game, but it should work with other versions of the game, too.
 
 
Step 1: Download and use PCSX2.
 
I’ve not tried other emulators as this is the one I personally use.
 
This isn’t a guide on how to install PCSX2 or Deus Ex: The Conspiracy.
 
 
Step 2: Go to your documents folder and open up PCSX2. Inside, open the inis folder. The directory should look something like this: C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME HERE\Documents\PCSX2\inis
 
 
Step 3: Open SPU2-X.ini with Notepad or a similar app.
 
 
Step 4: Immediately below [DEBUG], find DelayCycles=4. Change the 4 to a 1 so that it’s DelayCycles=1.
 
 
Step 5: Save and exit Notepad (or whichever app).
 
 
That’s all. Next time you run the game, dialogue should play correctly from the start of sentences rather than half way through. Yay.
 
 
 

Important Notes

Note 1: This will break audio for other games. Make sure to reset to default by manually changing it back to DelayCycles=4 when playing other games.
 
 
Note 2: This fix will work for some other games too, namely Armored Core, Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 2, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Unreal Tournament, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Matsuri Kakera Asobi and possibly Spiderman 2.
 
I haven’t tested any of those games myself; this is just according to a user (MrCK1) on a forum. Thank you MrCK1 for the fix.
 
 
Note 3: If anyone has another method, please feel free to explain it in the comments.
 
 
Note 4: I’m not tech savvy or familiar with PCSX2 at all, so unfortunately I won’t be able to help you if this fix doesn’t work for you or if you have other problems.
