This guide will demonstrate how to use Workshop to upload and download content.
Browsing Workshop
- You can access the workshop via your preferred web browser, steam client, or if you don't have Steam Overlay disabled. This guide uses Steam Overlay in order to navigate the workshop.
-
The Steam Workshop button can be accessed from both the Main Menu as well as the Game Scene.
From the Main Menu :
From Game Scene
-
The Workshop will open when you click on the Steam overlay. The Workshop can be accessed from there.
Uploading and Saving
- Before uploading, ensure that you save the game first.
- Also, ensure that Steam Overlay is enabled in your steam settings. If you don't, this guide might not work properly. (File uploading will still work even if Steam Overlay has been disabled.)
-
After saving the file. Click on upload from the pause menu.
-
Complete the form.
-
If you haven’t already, click on the orange color text to accept the workshop agreement. This will only be visible if steam overlay is enabled. If it is not, then you need to manually accept it using your browser or steam client. You don't have to do anything if it was accepted before.
-
Hold down the Upload button and wait until the progress is displayed in the console.
Do not close the panel right now, as it could cause unexpected errors like file created in workshop. Instead, save any file that was not uploaded or corrupted. In such cases, you may need to manually delete the file created from the steam workshops page.
-
When Successful Complete is reached, a message titled "Upload Successful" will be displayed on the console.
-
After uploading is completed successfully, you can press the "Open in Workshop” button. This will open the uploaded file in workshop Workshop (only if steam overlay has been turned on.) This will close the upload panel window.
Downloading from Workshop
- Once you have subscribed to the files you want, Steam will automatically start downloading them based on your network speed and Steam's server response.
-
To access them, open Load panel. Next, go to Downloaded tab. You will find the downloaded file there. Click on it to start the game.
- Wait until the file is displayed on the panel. Next, click "Refresh All". This will reload all levels that have been downloaded. If the file was already downloaded from Steam, it will appear in the list.
Updating Workshop Files
- is the Original Uploader for the file. He can only update his file. After downloading files from the workshop, you can upload any file. It will then upload a new file under YOUR name. This will prevent others from accidentally deleting your files and will also give the original creator ownership rights and authenticity.
-
It's easy to update a file. Uploading a file also saves the local copy of the file to the harddisk. The load panel allows you to play the local version of the saved file you have uploaded. All your edits can be done on the local file. The file will be updated when you upload again. The process is identical to the upload file. The game automatically recognizes when to update and upload a new document.
If the above process fails, or the update is not working correctly, then please follow this part.
-
Sometimes, it can happen that the save file has lost the file id of the workshop. If this happens, the file id from the workshop may be lost. In such cases, the owner must locate the save folder in their local saves directory.
On Windows the location is – C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Gamergetik\Destructive Contraptions\saves
(Replace your username with your computer's username. - Close the game.
-
Open Steam workshop to get the file ID from the top address bar, like the one in the photo below.
-
Your Workshop file id should be placed within the quotation marks Do not add space or alphabet to the file id. Make sure that you own the workshop file id. (If you aren't the owner, then this will update).
- Save the file and close it.
- Restart the game.
- Upload the file. It should now work.
-
Future plans include an option to directly enter the file id in-game. This would eliminate these many steps.
This is the end. We hope this helps. We are eager to see your creations. Please let us know if there are any errors.
