INTRODUCTION | WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

 
This is a simple guide that I came up with while attempting to grind for genetic code so I could tackle the more difficult scenarios such as Mad Cow Disease. 
 
This guide assumes that you have beaten the entire game at least once but do know that there are 25 genes for the standard plagues (From Bacteria to Bio Weapon, but it also includes the Neurax Worm) locked at the start of the game and an additional 30 genes for the special plagues (Necroa Virus, Simian Flu and Shadow Plague). 

Some things you might need to know:
• Infectivity and Severity play a role in amassing a very large number of DNA (250+) so we will be using that to our advantage. 
• We will NOT be going for a dormant/under-the-radar playstyle, which means we will be doing our best to spread as fast as possible using symptoms, transmission traits and abilities and kill off everyone once we have infected the entire population. 
• Some useful hotkeys for navigating around more quickly in general are Q for opening the disease tab; E for opening the world tab; 1, 2, 3 and 4 for navigating through the disease tab and ENTER for immediately closing pop-ups that occur while playing, as well as double clicking the traits you’d like to evolve/devolve instead of simply clicking it and clicking “Evolve”/”Devolve”.

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, we may head over to the next section of the guide. 
 
 
 

PREPARATION | GENETIC CODE

 
If you don’t have that many genes currently, that’s totally fine. You won’t miss out by not using/having any genes here. The genes in here are simply there to speed up the gameplay and are generally available by the time you finish the game on Normal difficulty. 

GENES:
• ATP Boost 
• Genetic Mimic 
• Aquacyte 
• Extremophile 
• Ionised Helix

ALTERNATIVE GENES (In case you don’t have the ones mentioned):
• Teracyte instead of Aquacyte 
• Xerophile instead of Extremophile

 
 
Pick a name for your disease and let’s start with the strategy we have in mind. 
 
 

THE STRATEGY | QUICKEST WAY TO COMPLETE THE GAME

 
Now that we’ve picked our name and are ready to select a country, start in Saudi Arabia since this country likes to spread to a lot of countries by plane. 
Allow all mutations EXCEPT Fever, Immune Suppression, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Pulmonary Oedema and Necrosis until the end of the game. 
 
 
Pop a DNA bubble and head over to the Symptoms tab 

• Coughing 
• Sneezing

 
Next head over to the Transmissions tab 

• Insect 1 
• Air 1

 
 
 
Once you get enough DNA 

• Drug Resistance 1 
• Cold Resistance 1 
• Bacterial Resilience 1 
• Genetic Hardening 1

 
Next, evolve these two traits 

• Bird 1 
• Water 1

 
Go back to the Symptoms tab and evolve these traits 

• Rash 
• Sweating 
• Pneumonia

 
At this point you will most likely be showered with red and orange bubbles, as well as being discovered in a check-up. Evolve these three traits in the Transmissions tab 

• Bird 2 
• Rodent 1 
• Water 2

 
At this point of the game you should wait for every country to get infected. You will have a sizeable amount of points that will cover the costs of the traits we’ll evolve to kill everyone off. 
 
Check the world tab to see which countries are left. The country that’s on the top of the Infected countries list is the least infected one, start monitoring its population. It’s usually Greenland since the island countries are the last ones to be infected. 
 
Once the country in question has more than half of its population infected, evolve these traits 

• Skin Lesions (If it hasn’t mutated yet) 
• Necrosis 
• Haemorrhagic Shock 
• Pulmonary Fibrosis 
• Total Organ Failure

 
There is largely no need to evolve the next two traits because of the difficulty, but if you’d like, go ahead and evolve them 

• Genetic Reshuffle 1 
• Genetic Reshuffle 2

 
Now, once you’ve killed off at least four billion people, save the game. 
Wait until every person dies. 
 
 
A result of ~400 days, 30-50% cure progress and three biohazards out of five. Not so bad? This is where we’ll click Retry, click Continue and go back to this screen of ours. 
 
 
To save precious time, you can load the save that you just saved, and you will be back to the endgame where you’re about to win again. 
 
 
Simply wait for the population to die and voila, you’ve earned another gene! 
 
So what’s the premise of this exploit? Simple, by reloading the game several times, you’ll speed up the process of having to beat the game over and over again, with every subsequent victory rewarding you with a random gene. 
In theory, if you keep reloading your save and beating the game, it will take you a total of 19 attempts (25 if you haven’t played any plague so far, though you can always check to see how many genes you have and see how many attempts will take you to get every gene.) 
 
So, once you’ve played through the save enough times, you’ll have every single gene unlocked for the standard plagues!
