Simple Solution

So first off, there’s no way around using Battlelog Browser, so don’t get your hopes up.

By default, launching BF3 on battlelog, EA will try to start BF3 through their new EA Play Launcher, this actually doesn’t work properly with steam, and while you might be able to play, no achievements or playtime will be gained on steam, you will just show as online.

What you have to do is simple: Start Origin, do nothing on there. Go on Battlelog, start the game and you will show as in game on steam, and you can use the Steam Overlay.
