Basically this guide covers the growth mechanics behind the stegosaurus, and additionally gives the coordinates to a location that provides plenty of food and water (with limited predators. I haven’t found a croc in 10 hours).

First I will cover the growth of a stego. If you want the recommended coordinates and some helpful advice to help you in survival, scroll down.

Your stegosaurus gains 0.167% of growth every 30 seconds.

stego growth rate:
every 30 seconds/ gains 0.167% growth
(If you multiply 0.167 by 6, then you will get relatively 1%, this is important since we can now understand how long it will take to grow but with larger measurements).

We need to multiply 6 by 30 seconds, in order to get the single percent per minutes.
6 x 30=180 seconds which translates to; 3 minutes per percent.

180 sec/1% = 3 min/1%

Now, we multiply the denominator and the numerator with the same number in order to get an understanding of percentage growth rates.

3 x 2 = 6 min/2%

3 x 3 = 9 min/3%

3 x 5 =15 min/5%

3 x 10 = 30 min/10%

3 x 25 = 75 min/25%

3 x 50 = 150 min/50%

3 x 100 = 300 min/100%

In 300 minutes (5 hours) you will reach 100%.
In 30 minutes you will add 10%.
In 15 minutes you will add 5%.

You may have noticed a pattern among them.

Percentage x 3 = growth time

Look at the first example. 2% x 3 would equal the growth time (6) in minutes.

(This calculation probably does not apply to all dinos). This calculation allows you to estimate how long it will take for your stegosaurus to reach a certain growth. For example in 30 minutes, you will be at 10%. If you are already at 10%, then waiting another 30 minutes will leave you at 20% growth. In other words, for every hour you get 20% growth. That means in 5 hours (5 x 20 = 100) that you will be at 100% growth (did you know that the wiki says 4 hours?).

If we use the above as references, every 1 hour (20% growth) and 15 minutes (5% growth) you will reach the benchmark to grow in size, since at 25% you will reach the benchmark . That means it will take 2 and 1/2 hours to reach 50% growth where you can finally stand your ground against dangerous predators.

Growing in size is pivotal in order to survive on the esvrima servers. Every predator is faster than you, crocs threaten to kill you in one hit in the early stages, however when you reach the third stage as a stegosaurus, carnos and crocs are on on close combat terms with you. Even in the second stage as a stego I managed to damage two carnos quite well who wanted to kill me. They surrounded me. They succeeded, but this was by myself. I bloodied them quite well considering my situation. Imagine a herd of stegosaurus working together against the carnivores…

PD changes based on tier (PD refers to the bite Newtons, km/h speed, and weight). The rate changes depending on what phase you are on (first, second, third, fourth), so I cannot give accurate rates on it without vicious research. I have some info that you can skip if you don’t want to bother with it. It is somewhat inaccurate only because the decimals only go to the tenths, and so I had to strenuously find the rates as minutely as I could without the numbers.

But in summary, in the first tier: you are gaining relatively 9 kg for every minute.
T1 – PD+: 1 min/(9 kg, 0.1 kg/h, 0.1 N)
As you can see, newtons and speed doesn’t increase much, and that your weight is a priority in this stage.

T2 – PD+: 30 sec/(10.5 kg, 0.02?, 0.1 N)
In tier 2, I had trouble deciphering the kg/h speed. Take that one with a grain of salt. You see though that your weight increases by nearly 11 every 30 seconds. That is almost double the rate of tier 1.

T3 – PD+: 0.1 tons, 0.1 km/h, 1.4 N (1.167%)
For tier 3, I could not do it per minute or seconds because the Newton (bite power, which I believe corresponds with tail power) was increasing too fast, but I did do it every percentage. Every time the growth increases by 1.167%, this added to all three of the listed above. Meaning, your bite power is increasing DRASTICALLY.

Never went to T4. I suspect I will though soon.

Coordinates and Some Advice

Growth Info

This part includes a lot of math. If you’d rather not understand how I came to these conclusions, then just scroll to where I describe, growth-minute/growth-percentage

9 min/3%

1. min/5%

3. min/10%

7. min/25%

15. min/50%

30. min/100%

The above gives you an understanding of the time it takes for that specific growth %.

In 300 minutes (5 hours) you will reach 100%.
In 30 minutes you will add 10% growth.
In 15 minutes you will add 5% growth.

2. x 3 = 6 minutes
3. x 3 = 9 minutes
and on and on.

(All dinos I assume have a different growth rate, and so this only applies to a stego). This calculation allows you to estimate how long it will take for your stegosaurus to reach a certain growth. For example in 30 minutes, you will be at 10%. If you are already at 10%, then waiting another 30 minutes will leave you at 20% growth. In other words, for every hour you get 20% growth. That means in 5 hours (5 x 20 = 100) that you will be at 100% growth (did you know that the wiki says it takes 4 hours to completely grow? What a bunch of rubbish).

If we use the above as references, every 1 hour (20% growth) and 15 minutes (5% growth) you will reach the benchmark to grow in size, since at 25% you will increase in size and thus be able to defend yourself. That means it will take 2 and 1/2 hours to reach 50% growth as a stego, to where you can confidently stand your ground.

Coordinates and Helpful Advice

It is quite hard to grind as a herbivore stegosaurus without endangering your life, which is why locations can be important for survival.

lat: ( -91, 728.367)
long: ( -153, 171.844)
alt: ( -31, 549.375)

These coordinates are located in a field surrounded by forests and swamps. There are bushes of food sporadically placed around the plains and the swamp is a reliable source of water (if crocs occupy the lake, know that the plains are surrounded by a river which means access to different safer parts). There are many bushes to hide in as well. You may hear the roar of a carnivore, but by the time you’ve revealed yourself, you’ll be able to take on a small pack.

(Note: to survive, I suggest hiding in bushes at least until you’ve gotten a herd to help defend yourself with. It is important that you be an alpha and live out to max growth to motivate others to go herbivore stegosaurus as well. Even if the location I cited was unsafe on your server, hiding in bushes can save your life).

For reference, don’t take on two adult carnos as a phase/tier 2 stegosaurus. I died. If you are found by a carnivore prepare to fight, because you cannot outrun it. Sometimes a single predator will alert their entire pack and follow you til the ends of the earth until you are surrounded by adults, that is how desperate these carnivores are. Upgrade to tier 3, so that stegosauruses can finally have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ chance, because holy crap every time I spawn in the stegosauruses die first (be sure to hide in bushes).

The point of this guide was to increase the amount of players for stegosauruses, because I like the dino, and I know I will die if I don’t get some comrades to play with me as a herd. I know that if a stego herd grows, the esvrima (stress test) servers are practically dominated by stegosauruses considering how lethal their tails are. This information collected above was for my own sake, and now, it is for your benefit as well.
