Intro and Thanks to Contributors
Many players have difficulties finding tech blueprints and when they are not found, the player is often convinced that there is a bug. Though there have been a couple bugs along the way, in most cases the blueprints are there and just simply not found. I hope that this guide will help those that do not know every nuance and how to best find the blueprints. The info ahead comes from my own experience and also from posts by many helpful community members. I will do my best to revise this guide as more helpful information and helpful suggestions are received and if any game updates change the tech blueprint system. Obviously, this guide needs to be fully correct in order to help others effectively so if anyone sees a statement that differs from their own experience, please leave a comment below. I am also always on the lookout for more screenshots of blueprints that are found in unusual places.
I want to give the following players my special thanks for their contributions:
Fotolit- for creating the awesome village maps and allowing me to use them in this guide. https://steamcommunity.com/app/1360000/discussions/0/4811511685059585119/
Thanks to Jaunitta, Xynth and shGaming599 for their support and providing screenshots.
Without your contributions, this guide would be lacking.
Geography and Spawn Pattern
As there are currently 12 total techs, it is important to know that they all spawn inside buildings that lie within 6 villages (In my experience, I have never seen a BP spawn outdoors). Each of the 6 villages will have 2 blueprints. To reiterate, no more or less than 2 tech blueprints spawn per village.
This map highlights the village locations as they can be difficult to identify in-game.
The techs will spawn randomly in each village upon each new gamesave creation and they will remain in their original spawn location even though other village loot respawns every 10 days.
Each time a new game is created, they will randomly spawn in different buildings compared to another save. Therefor, asking another player where they found a specific tech is moot because it is more likely than not that a particular tech will spawn in the same location.
Though there are other tips mentioned later, one big tip that I believe is essential when searching for Tech Blueprints is to keep track of how many you find in each village. While doing so, you will know which village(s) to revisit if you must leave for whatever survival reason during a BP search.
Exploring Villages and Identifying Tech Blueprints
As previously stated, there are 6 villages that each have 2 blueprints. Once you get to a village, it is important to search EVERY building if you want to acquire all blueprints. Most buildings that can be entered have the potential to have a blueprint and there are a couple types that I will note at the end of this section that do not, in my experience.
@Fotolit has created an awesome collection of village maps that identify each building in each village and was kind enough to give me permission to use them in this guide. You can also view them here which includes his link for downloading the hi-res maps:
When attempting to find Tech Blueprints, it is always best to have a light source. A torch is good but the yellow helmet light is best. Even in daytime, this will help since there are no light sources in the houses.
Tech Blueprints appear as bright gray books that are always standing upright and will stand out compared to other books when found on a bookshelf. When found on a bookshelf, they are usually singular. No need to scan every book in a shelf as they will stand out and not be within the other stacks of books.
In my gameplay experience, the majority of tech blueprints are found in bookshelves as depicted here:
However, some blueprints can also be found sitting on other objects as noted in these cases:
There have been reports of BPs spawning in other difficult to notice spots such as on couches, under tables, on top of bookcases, etc. and we need screenshots of these, so please post them and I will happily add them to the guide.
When acquiring a tech, it will automatically be learned by the player and will not take up any storage. To see the list of techs, open your inventory (“i” by default) and press the gears icon at the top of the screen.
Notice in this case that only 8 of 12 have been found as noted by the check marks next to them.
When searching villages you will want to keep track of which houses and buildings that you have covered. Some will simply keep both doors open but all doors will close upon reload. Many players will place a ghost construct in front of the house. Be absolutely certain that you have fully searched that building or it will defeat the purpose if you have to re-search them.
In all of my gameplay, I have never found tech BPs outsider of buildings, in bathrooms, empty houses like this one:
Nor have I found any in attics.
Here we come to an end for The Infected Help with finding Tech Blueprints hope you enjoy it. If you think we forget something to include or we should make an update to the post let us know via comment, and we will fix it asap! Thanks and have a great day!
