Common abbreviations

 
There are lots of words related to mann vs. machine that are condensed to a few letters in order to more quickly relay information; ya know, an abbreviation. 
 
Some of these abbreviations have dynamic numbers that are indicated with # 
 
MvM – Mann vs. Machine 
ToD – Tour of Duty ticket, usually used to refer to a ticket either by itself or followed with ‘ticket’ (ToD / ToD ticket) 
Tix- Same as above 
w# – Wave number, usually used as w1, w2, etc.. 
#/# – Wave progress, usually used as 5/6, 4/8, etc… to indicate progress of a mission. 
# slots – Amount of empty player slots, usually used as 1 slot to indicate the server is missing a player 
#t OR t# – Tour number ie t384 is tour 384 in reference to someone’s badge 
 
Server locations can be seen by pressing tab and looking in the upper left (stock hud). 
sholm/stock – Stockholm server 
frank – Frankfurt server 
na – North American server (or player) 
eu – Europe server (or player) 
virg – Virginia server 
la – Los Angles server 
wash – Washington server 
aus – Australian server (or player) 
hk – Hong Kong server 
tok – Tokyo server 
bra – Brazil server (rare) 
 
BS – Bone Shaker, a mission 
BP – Broken Parts, a mission 
EE – Empire Escalation, a mission 
HH – Hamlet Hostility, a mission 
 
2. – Two Cities, a tour 
OS – Oil Spill, a tour 
ST – Steel Trap, a tour 
 
SS – Silicone Slaughter, an achievement (rarely used) 
 
FaN – Force a Nature, a scout weapon (not to be confused with fan) 
fan – Fan o’ War, a scout weapon (not to be confused with FaN) 
disp – Dispenser, the engineer building 
KGB – Killing Gloves of Boxing, a heavy weapon 
GRU – Gloves of Running Urgently, a heavy weapon 
RR – Rescue Ranger, an engineer weapon 
 
KBR – Knockback rage, an upgrade for heavy (usually referred to as rage) 
EOI – Explode on ignite, an upgrade for pyro 
EH – Explosive headshot, an upgrade for sniper 
HoK – Health on kill, an upgrade 
rspec/rs – Rocket Specialist, an upgrade for soldier (rare) 
pen/pene – Projectile Penetration, an upgrade (rare) 
2way – Two Way Teleporter, an upgrade for engineer 
tele – Teleporter, an engineer building. 
 
KoL – Kick on Last, kicking a player on the last wave of a mission. 
KoS – Kick on Sight, kicking a player as soon as you recognize them 
Req/rq/re – Re-Queue, leaving a game to queue for another one (rq sometimes for ragequit instead) 
q – Queue, pressing the start search button to find a server. 
y – Shorthand for why 
) – Shorthand for a smiley face :), sometimes )) instead 
lvl – Shorthand of level, usually in reference to badges or items 
gl – Good Luck 
cba – Can’t be arsed 
sth99 – Shotgun to head (is) 99% (effective) 
ez – Easy 
dc – Disconnected 
dcing – Timing out “player is dcing get ready to q” 
BPOD – Big pile of d*cks – Former mvm player that made a lot of voice clips people spam. 
 
ks – Killstreak (kit) 
spec – Specialized (killstreak) 
pro/prof – Professional (killstreak) 
fab – Fabricator, usually follows spec of pro to denominate type 
The following italics will be in context with spec/prof kits/fabs 
MG – Mean Green 
DD – Deadly Daffodil 
emerald – Agonizing Emerald (rarely AE) 
HR – Hot Rod 
TS – Team Shine 
Mann/Mannd – Manndarin 
VV – Villainous Violet 
FH – Fire Horns 
Any substring of Singularity starting at ‘S’ – Singularity (very rare) 
HB/hypno – Hypno-Beam 
tor – Tornado (rare) 
CD/dis/discharge – Cerebral Discharge (usually discharge, other 2 are rare) 
inc/incin – Incinerator 
Flames is not abbreviated AFAIK.
 
bw – battle-worn (part) 
aussie – Australium 
gpan – Golden Frying Pan 
 
Context dependent abbreviations: 
GG – Gear Grinder (a tour), or rarely Good Game 
MM – Metal Massacre (achievement), or Metro Malice (mission) 
BB* – Bavarian Botbash (mission), Beggars Bazooka (weapon), Brass Beast (weapon), Battalions Backup (weapon), Buff Banner (weapon), Black Box (weapon), or Boston Basher (weapon, rare) 
GP – Gas pyro or Gas passer 
dmg – Damage, an upgrade or the actual damage dealt by a player/weapon 
TB – tacobot.tf, the website or the group associated with site 
AB – Airblast, an upgrade or the act of airblasting 
 
*Because there are so many uses when referring to a weapon it is recommended to just say the first word of the weapon. 
 
 

Sayings

 
These are common sayings that usually reference some “inside” knowledge. 
 
Words in () may or may not be used. 
 
Noob medic (create guide) – Refers to famous Nomer43 bind “nomer43 : noob medic go and create a guide that say : do not play medic in MVM or pro players will kick me” As medic is widely considered a useless class by many high tours. The bind references how people kicked for not changing will often go complain on forums. 
 
(Ready to) f1 – Words in () can be replaced with a number of phrases, refers to being ready to kick (f1) someone. 
 
Idle (class) – Refers to the playstyle of a class not doing damage (idle), most commonly used on scouts who don’t shoot or medics who aren’t spamming crit canteens. Can be used on any class that is under preforming. 
 
two s*itties – Refers to the tour “Two Cities” which has a reputation for awful teams as it is the most played tour. Can also be the user’s own personal distaste for the tour since it’s not too challenging. 
 
dog a** martini – Refers to a voice clip of REMP Owner saying “you sip that dog a** like it’s a fu*kin martini”. 
 
I got gl’d – Superstition that someone saying gl will give you bad loot “I got gl’d last second and got a capper kit and spec luger fab.” 
 
(X) main menu – In reference to “going to the main menu.” X can be many words, some examples: catapulted to, go complete, commit. Could also be “main menu tour.” 
 
 

Dictionary

 
Just words and their definitions/uses in the context of mvm. 
 
f4 – Refers to readying up before a wave, often followed by other text, often expletives, sometimes jokes. 
 
ape/monkey – Insult or jab when someone does something dumb (depending on the relationship the user has with the person who did the dumb thing). 
 
noob – Referring to someone new to mvm or an action that a new person would do. 
 
idle – Either refers to someone not playing or doing so little they might as well not be playing. Refer to sayings section. 
 
Ghost upgrade – An upgrade that cannot normally be purchased but if purchased through bugs will still provide benefits. Most common is a firing speed upgrade for the soda popper. 
 
Burner – A person who has already completed the mission they are playing. Can be used as a verb “I’m burning this mission.” or as a noun “Jeff is a burner.” Refers to burning time for no reward. 
 
Repeater – A person who does not complete tours, usually by burning all but 1 mission in a tour and then leaving during the last wave on that 1 mission to avoid completing. Can also just leave on last for all the missions in order to never use a ticket. 
 
Leaver – Can be a description to a repeater, “they repeat as a leaver”, which refers to someone leaving on last instead of burning to repeat. Or refers to someone who constantly leaves almost any game they join. 
 
Snipe – Joining a mission that is not on wave 1, “Come snipe my w3 EE 1 slot.” “Jeff is a sniper, only takes w3 or higher.” “I’m busy sniping my friend’s w5 BB.” 
 
Immediate – Used the same as immediately but without the ‘ly.’ “Q immediate” 
 
mast*rbate – Synonymous to idle 
 
#x – Number of upgrade points or “ticks” to buy “heavy pls buy 3x firing speed” 
 
(shield) bash – Using the medic’s projectile shield to damage robots instead of just blocking damage. “medic please shield bash giant demo” 
 
# stack – Refers to amount of people in a party, “we in a 4 stack” 
 
Stacked lobby – A lobby (not party) that is full of high skill players (3 or more) “Playing in stacked lobbies is so boring.” 
 
Random – A person not in the party. “This random is pretty good.” 
 
zzz – Expressing boredom. “zzz” – high tour on w4 HH. 
 
Entertainment (class) – A person who is doing so bad it’s entertaining to watch “That entertainment demo put his stickies on hatch every pre-game and then tried to pain train the giant crit heavy with no res.” 
 
Golf – Act of launching a giant, usually the bomb carrier, via heavy’s knockback rage upgrade. The “hole” is bomb hatch and a “hole in one” is getting the carrier within 1s from jumping into the hatch. 
 
Extendfreeze – a console command that lets you stay dead longer. 
 
f4 script/idle script – A script to auto press f4, usually fast enough that it does not cancel the countdown if you are the only one f4ing. Can be used by an idler as to not hinder the rest of the team between waves. 
 
(pyro) Pushing – Using airblast (rarely other forms of knockback) to help the bomb carrier get to hatch faster. 
 
#Man – Amount of people in a lobby, usually in reference to “low-mans” that complete a mission with 4 or less people “Every mission is possible to beat as a 2man” 
 
Zoo – Reference a lobby/region/group/etc… as having a large amount of “apes/monkeys” (idiots) “That lobby was a full zoo” “Typical NA zoo today” 
 
Ez clear – Usually in reference to someone leaving willingly but can be used for any removal-based comment. “Ez clear on spy” – said after 0 tour spy disconnected when he died once. “Ez clear on pyro” – said after a 5-1 votekick passed on an airblast pyro. 
 
Carry – A person/party doing an overwhelming majority of the damage. “Demo is a hard carry on EE” Can also be past tense carried in reference to someone not contributing much “Medic was carried” 
 
Boosted (high tour) – A person who is perceived as having less skill than their tour count would suggest, usually in reference to a person with over 100 tours. “200 tour medic still kritting on battalion soldiers? Are you boosted?” Boosted comes from the fact that many of these people will only play in 3+ stacks or only snipe late waves thus they have been “boosted” into a higher tour count from other people’s skill rather than their own. 
 
Top – References a location on the map that is above the general robot spawn ie the catwalk on Mannhattan or bridge on Decoy. 
 
Bottom – References the opposite of top ie where most bots spawn from. Possibly shorthanded to bot 
 
Tank buster – A class loadout that is exceptional at dealing tank damage. “Bushwacka carbine sniper is a low cost tank buster” 
 
Pop(ped) – In reference to medic bots using their ubercharge. “Who popped the medics?” 
 
Med pick(er) – A class loadout that can drop uber medics before they can pop. Usually a single dedicated person per team. “Demo is a really good med picker” 
 
Buster – Shorthand for Sentry Buster. Also the name of my cat 😀 
 
Unf4/Unready – To press f4 after you have already pressed it thus unreadying you. Shorthand unred. 
 
Pocket (med(ic)) – A medic who focuses on healing/ubering 1 player. 
 
Canteen spam – A playstyle that involves spamming (crit) canteens, usually abusing canteen specialist upgrade from medic and a 2way tele. 
 
low/mid/high tour – Reference to a player’s tour count. The exact point varies for each tour and per player but generally <20 tours is almost always low tour, 100>50 is mid, and over 500 is high. (Future guide on exacts maybe soon?) 
 
Retry – Console command that disconnects and reconnects a player to the current server. 
 
Cheat support(er) – Someone who is ok with cheating in mvm but does not do it themselves.
