How to change the type and name of your pet

Introduction:

In the spring of the first year there will be an event, where in the morning, you will leave your cabin and see Marnie with a pet asking if you will want to adopt him.
The pet will be according to what you chose at the time of creating the farm, and the name will be given at the time.

But what if you regret your choices? Neither the type of pet nor the name can be changed in any way in the game, just the appearance of the pet.
But what if I say I can change the type and name of the pet?

1 – Locate your Save:
Save from Stardew Valley really stores all the information about the game, such as the name of your dog, horse and so on.

Open Windows “Search” and type “% AppData%” and hit “Enter”.
Then find the folder “StardewValley / Saves” and enter the folder “Save Cursed”.

There you will have two files with your character’s name, one “normal” and the other with “_old” (which is the backup of the previous day of your game).

For that we will need the “Save Normal” (without “_old”).

ATTENTION: BACKUP YOUR SAVE, APPARENTLY THERE ARE NO REASONS TO CORRUPT YOUR GAME, BUT IT IS BETTER TO DO THIS FOR SAFETY.

2 – Changing the type / name:
Right-click on your save and go to “Open with” and select the Notepad or text editor you use.

After doing this, press “CTRL + F” and enter your pet’s name, in case my pet is “Danzig”.

You will find the following line: <NPC xsi: type = “Cat”> <name> Danzig </name>

So as you can see, there it is, “type = cat” and “name = Danzig”.
To change the type just type “Cat or Dog” in quotes.
And the name is just to delete the old one and type the new one.

If I want to change my cat’s name and change it to a dog, it would look like this:

<NPC xsi: type = “Dog”> <name> Glenn </name>

Now he is a dog and calls “Glenn”.

ATTENTION: THE TUTORIAL HAS NOT BEEN FINISHED, IT HAS A BUG AND YOU NEED TO DO THIS TO SOLVE.

What bug is this? Well, your pet will change as soon as you enter your save, but its appearance in the menu does not.
To solve this, have 4 hearts of friendship with M. Rasmodius, the magician and use the “Sanctuary of Illusions” in the basement of the Wizard’s Tower, change your pet’s appearance to the one you want, and after that everything will be all right.
