Methods that worked for me in every mission to achieve 3*

Prologue

These are tips and tricks that could help you to achieve 3* in the missions. I started writing this guide after about 20 hours of gameplay so I did not have the lowest tier/level of weapons but also not at max. I still only have the Magnum pistol at max level.

This is more of my own experience and what worked for me personally than a real guide. I hope you find at least one thing useful even if they do not all work for you. If you’re having trouble, it may be worth completing the mission on Normal and trying again later. This will probably happen for the missions that ask you to get 100 kills with X weapon. You’ll find them easier after you’ve upgraded your guns a bit.

Don’t forget to check the Armory often to upgrade! Progress is actively added to the next level even if you’ve not paid the credits. You’ll be able to upgrade more guns after you unlock them by levelling up.

Good luck out there, Spartan.

Brief intro + terms

In this guide, I will be fully using Halo terms, being a veteran of the Halo series. So if you’re new to Halo or don’t know what I mean when I mention it, check here. If you are a Halo veteran, just skip this section 😊

Custom Map

Spartan Firefight Tips to 3* every mission - Custom Map

I’ve made a custom map you can try using to get more kills, you can find it via File Share in the top right corner in the menu. Search for “SpartanTraining” by Mouse. Download it and then you will be able to play it in Forge. It’s also a good map to do your daily challenges on.

You can control which enemies spawn by choosing the game mode, it might be better to pick Gruntpocalypse. You can pick which weapon you want to spawn with in the same menu (they also come in weapon drops every minute after the first). Or you can just leave it on “All” if you don’t really care. You can use the lowest difficulty setting to kill more easily.

The map isn’t perfect but it’s simple and works ok. What you would do on this map is drop down into the pit and shoot the enemies and more that drop down. Come back up when you need to heal or get more ammo/new weapon. With certain weapons, you can shoot the heads of the enemies while crouching low on the ramp. New weapons spawn every minute on FireFight.

I’ve included vehicles so you can increase your Vehicle Kills commendation if you want but there are other maps available on the File Share that may be better for that, like the ODST3 map. If you want to do this, go through the portal on the left or jump across the pit and then get in the Warthog.

Cheese Strats

-> Standing or crouching on the edge of a ramp will allow you to shoot down enemies as they come, and you can punch them when they are close using the attack key. Crouching will let you change directions without moving.

Spartan Firefight Tips to 3* every mission

Jump. A lot.
-> Most of the enemies will have trouble shooting you. Some exceptions might be: hunters, white elite, fuel rod grunts, jackal with beam rifle, bosses. Definitely a worthwhile tactic to use that will let you heal a bit.

-> When you’re running away from enemies, it may be worth turning around for 1 second to shoot them if you have a piercing weapon like sniper rifle, spartan laser or heavy weapon like rocket launcher, fuel rod gun.

-> If you’re desperate for healing, jump in a banshee if the map has one and stay in the air as needed. Though I think only 1 mission map has the banshee so this tip isn’t that useful for missions.

-> Only works sometimes (or on certain maps) but stay on the gravity lift and keep flying on it. Enemies on the ground level won’t shoot at you, but the ones above you will. You can heal this way.

Spartan Firefight Tips to 3* every mission

NOT a cheese, but if you want to pass by gravity lifts without going up, just hold the down key.

Mission 1 – Kill 100 Grunts

You shouldn’t really have much problems on this level. Just prioritise killing suicide grunts when you see them. You can camp on the ramp on the right side of the map if you want to. The Warthog from the right side of the map could get you some kills, especially if you camp near spawn point; it’s quite slow but pretty safe.

Mission 2 – Get a score of 5000 points in Gruntpocalypse mode

Similar to mission 1, you shouldn’t encounter much issues here. It’s almost identical to mission 1, just refer to the tips above. Watch out for the white grunts with Fuel Rod guns as they knock out your shields in 1 hit.

Mission 3 – Get 100 kills with the Assault Rifle

This level is not so easy as the previous 2. You’ll likely need to be on the move quite a lot as you need assault rifle ammo. You can refill the ammo under spawn point and on the bottom level in the middle of the map. Each time you pick up a new assault rifle you can refill ammo twice, so make sure to do that.

Watch out for the white elites, you will lose health very quickly if you let them shoot you and they run faster than you can. The beam rifle jackals are dangerous too.

You can use grenades on tougher enemies like elites and shielded jackals to save bullets for weaker enemies.

If you can’t complete this level, my recommendation is that you complete this level on Normal difficulty (or if you want, Heroic) to pass it and try again after you’ve levelled up your rifle a few times.

Mission 4 – Defend the Generator (5 minutes)

This defend mission isn’t particularly difficult as you only need to worry about 1 side. Just stand in the middle of the generator or a bit in front of it if you want and keep killing enemies as they come. Take their weapons when you can as you’ll run out of ammo soon enough.

Mission 5 – Complete 6 waves in Firefight mode

Camp spot – If you stand here on the boxes, you’ll be relatively fine killing enemies that come up by punching them. Just turn and face towards the incoming enemies as necessary. Watch out for the suicide grunts on the later waves, retreat until you’ve killed them and get back there.

Spartan Firefight Tips to 3* every mission

Alternate camp spot you can use, it’s the ramp on the other side of the map:

Mission 6 – Kill 100 Jackals

Camp spot – Just drop down from spawn and find the spot on the hill where you can shoot the enemies and avoid gunfire by crouching. Keep crouching on the spot and shoot. Turn around to kill any enemies that get past as necessary. Take enemy weapon drops when it’s safe. You can achieve similar results without crouching, but I find it better to crouch as you can turn around without moving and losing the spot.

Mission 7 – Get a score of 5000 points in King of the Hill mode

Unfortunately, there’s not much tips I can give here as you actually have to stand in the hill to get points. You can’t really camp at any given location as the hill moves after a certain amount of time. But the points are quite quickly gained, so something you can try is standing at spawn point until a hill spawns closer to you. The only enemy that can attack you up there are drones. There should be enough time to try this a couple times. If you’re lucky, the hill can spawn directly beneath the spawn point a few times.

Mission 8 – Get 100 kills with the Battle Rifle

Camp spot – this mission took me a few tries, but the way I got it done was by camping on the same spot as mission 6. Ration out the battle rifle weapon drops and only grab them when needed. If there are no weapon drops available, it’s best to just camp the ramp on the right side until one comes. I’ve had some success camping the left side of the map, you can try this if you want. Remember after you grab a rifle drop, you can get more ammo with the ammo boxes on each side of the map.

If you can’t do it, just complete the mission on normal and try again after you have a few more levels on the Battle Rifle.

Mission 9 – Defend the Generator

This mission is fairly easy, you can choose to stand in the middle of the generator or use the camp spot on the hill from mission 6. I found the camp spot to be good enough to defend the generator. Pick up enemy weapons when safe.

Mission 10 – Complete 8 waves in Firefight mode

Camp spot – this mission isn’t too hard, use the camp spot from mission 6 and keep killing enemies till you reach the final wave. Wave 8 spawns a boss enemy, but if you kill enough small fodder you won’t have to worry about killing it. Otherwise use grenades and run and shoot until it dies.

Mission 11 – Kill 100 Elites

Camp spot – stand here by the spawn point and keep punching the elites when they come up. Sometimes the jackals land behind you, just quickly turn and kill them. Turn and kill quickly and you should be fine.

Spartan Firefight Tips to 3* every mission

An alternate camp spot you can use is on the other side of the map. Check Mission 12 for the location.

Mission 12 – Get a score of 5000 points in Firefight mode

Camp spot – use the camp spot from mission 11, just punch the enemies as they come up turning around as you need to, for different enemies. Watch out for suicide grunts and hunters and retreat a bit when you see them. Use grenades on the hunters if you have them.
A boss comes on wave 8 if you make it there, but you only need to get 5000 points so it’s not necessary to kill it unless you want to. Simply kill a few other small fries.

Alternate camp spot – works out decently and you get points faster here because enemies spawn closer to this location but you’re more likely to take damage and die. Worth a try.

Spartan Firefight Tips to 3* every mission

Mission 13 – Get 100 kills with the Shotgun

Another more difficult mission. Ration out the shotgun weapon drops and only grab them when needed if possible. Shotgun blasts pierce and can kill multiple enemies if you can get them lined up. You could try jumping continually allowing the enemies to group up, to be more efficient with ammo and kills. Spawn area is a decent place to camp, they come a bit more slowly so you can heal.

Watch out for the white elite and the jackal with beam rifle, as well as suicide grunts. Elites and brutes take multiple shots to kill.

This might be another mission to come back to after upgrading shotgun a few times if it’s too hard.

Mission 14 – Defend the Generator (5 minutes)

This one is a little more difficult than the previous defend missions as you have to defend in 2 directions. Stand in the middle of the generator and keep killing enemies as they come, make sure to take out the brutes with brute shots quickly. Body block some shots while killing enemies but try to not die.

Mission 15 – Complete 10 waves in FireFight mode

Camp spot – use the same spot as mission 12. Watch out for suicide grunts and hunters and the boss on wave 8. Jackals with beam rifles, grunts with fuel rods and white elites come in later waves too.
You’ll likely have to run from the boss on wave 8 but take opportunities to shoot and kill it as soon as possible. Don’t forget to keep jumping.

Mission 16 – Kill 100 Brutes

Camp spot – relatively safe here, just keep spamming the fire button on the pistol after you run out of Assault Rifle ammo, pick up brute shots when it’s safe. If any enemies get behind, just turn around and kill them.

Spartan Firefight Tips to 3* every mission

Mission 17 – Get a Score of 5000 points in One Flag mode

This mission is very easy. DO NOT KILL any of the grunts that spawn at the start as they are slow and weak. The key thing is to keep running and jumping, the grunts shouldn’t bother you too much. Each flag gives 500 points, so you simply need to just run + jump over to the flag and bring it back, 10 times.

Mission 18 – Get 100 kills with the Sniper Rifle

Not too difficult as long as you play it smart. Try to only shoot enemies when there are 2 (or more) lined up together as each bullet hits 2 enemies. You can jump a lot in one spot to make the enemies group up. The only exceptions you should make, are to kill the white elite ASAP and any enemies coming at you when you’re low health. Refill the sniper with both ammo boxes if possible.

Mission 19 – Defend the Generator (5 minutes)

The majority of this mission you’ll be shooting in 1 direction, so you likely won’t have too much trouble with this one. Just refer to the tips from mission 4 if you need help. Kill the brutes with brute shots quickly. Use grenades when it gets a bit overwhelming.

Mission 20 – Complete 12 waves in FireFight mode

Camp spot – this mission isn’t too difficult. Stay at this spot and kill any enemies that come down. Watch out for the brutes, hunters and the boss that spawns on wave 8. Jump and shoot at the suicide grunts coming from the top side or retreat if you need to. When you see the boss, you can throw grenades if you have any, then run to the left and go up the gravity lift and go right all the way to the end of the platform. Prepare to shoot the boss as it comes and then go down and repeat until it dies and go back to camping.

Mission 21 – Kill 50 Hunters

Camp spot – use the same spot as mission 20, punch any enemies as they come down. Do the same for the Hunters though they take 2-3 hits to kill. You won’t really face any problems camping here unless they’re grouped together which happens sometimes. In that case, just drop down and use grenades and shoot. Run to the left if you need to. The Hunters also take 2 grenades to kill, if you end up getting a weapon drop near you, you can refill on grenades with the boxes.

Mission 22 – Get a score of 5000 points in Oddball

Camp spot – use the same spot as mission 20 after you get the skull; just hit enemies as they drop down, you’ll one hit kill them. The enemies to watch out for are suicide grunts and drones. With the suicide grunts, you’ll have to drop the skull temporarily with the grenade or swap weapon key and kill them first.

Mission 23 – Get 50 kills with the Rocket Launcher

Camp spot – you can stand in 1 of 2 spots to get this done safely. With spot 1, you just need to keep crouching and shoot enemies as they come. With spot 2, you need to jump when you see the enemies and shoot them when you’re in the air.
When your ammo runs out, you’ll probably have to keep running and jumping to buy yourself time until the next rocket launcher drops down. Then make sure to fill it up with the ammo boxes before using up all the ammo. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to get multiple kills sometimes with 1 shot.

Mission 24 – Defend the Generator (5 minutes)

Not too difficult, the enemies mostly just come from 1 direction. Refer to the tips in Mission 4 if needed. Prioritise killing suicide grunts and brutes with brute shots.

Mission 25 – Complete 14 waves in FireFight mode

1. waves is getting harder.
Camp spot – camp in the same spot as mission 20 and punch any enemies when they drop down. Watch out for hunters, white elite, grunts with fuel rod and jackals with beam rifle. You can jump and shoot the suicide grunts as they are coming at you, or retreat to the Pelican (airship) or to the left. You can throw grenades at the hunters as they approach you or let them drop and punch them 2-3 times in the back. Try to save any heavy weapons for the enemies that take multiple hits to kill.

Watch out for the boss on wave 8. Run to the left on the bottom level and back up the gravity lift in a loop. Just keep attacking where possible and keep running. Once they’re dead you can go back to the camp spot. If a ghost drops down and stays there after you kill the driver, move it away so you don’t accidentally jump into it.

Mission 26 – Kill 100 Floods

Camp spot – camping here is quite safe, just punch any enemies that jump up on the box and turn around when necessary. If you see any enemies approaching from the top, shoot them. Flood spores count as kills if you can punch them or shoot but not if they explode on you. If you have problems with the flood spores, try unloading your gun on them as they approach. Pick up enemy weapons when safe.

Mission 27 – Get a score of 5000 points in Floods mode

This mission is basically identical to mission 26, check the tips if you need it.

Mission 28 – Get 100 kills with the Spartan Laser

Camp spot – not too hard if you can pile them up at this location by continually jumping on the box until they gather up. Kill them when there’s 3-5 of them but I’d say anything more than 1 kill with 1 shot is a win. Watch out for suicide grunts, white elite, jackals with beam rifle, ghosts and drones. You should prioritise killing all of those ASAP because they will get annoying. For drones, just spam your pistol and punch them while jumping on the box. Fill up on ammo when you get down to 20 ammo on the gun, or wait for weapon drops.

Spartan Firefight Tips to 3* every mission

Mission 29 – Defend the Generator (5 minutes)

For this level, stand in the middle of the generator so you don’t take damage. They come from both directions so be careful to not let them pile up and get too close, use your grenades if you have them. Enemies to prioritise killing are the hunters, brutes with brute shots and suicide grunts. Body blocking some of the damage will give you some leeway. Pick up enemy weapons whenever safe, brute shots are a good choice.

Mission 30 – Complete 16 waves in FireFight mode

This one isn’t going to be easy as you have to beat 16 waves and I can only give tips.

Camp spot – I’ve found this spot to be best for me, you can generally kill or heavily wound whatever is coming at you from the top after they’ve gone down the ramp. The things that will give you the most problems at this spot which might force you to move are: thrown grenades, suicide grunts, hunters and the bosses that spawn on waves 8 and 16. On 16 you actually do NOT need to kill the boss, just kill enough enemies if that’s easier, but keep running if you decide to do that.

So, the tactic is to literally just keep shooting in the direction of the top level and you will automatically punch any enemies that jump up, sometimes they end up behind you so just turn and kill them quickly. If a ghost ends up landing on your box, make sure to move it away when it’s safe so you don’t accidentally jump into it.

Spartan Firefight Tips to 3* every mission

Mission 31 – Complete 7 waves in Boss Attack mode

This mission can be difficult, but keep trying. My tactic for this level is to use the same spot as mission 20. Any enemies that drop down, just punch them. The only enemies that don’t die in 1 hit are the brutes, hunters and bosses. If you see suicide grunts, jump and shoot them or retreat if you need to.

With the bosses, as soon as you see them, turn around and throw a grenade up if you have them, then run to the left on the bottom level and take the gravity lift back up, run to the end on the top level and from there, shoot the boss that will come charging at you. You may also have a chance to shoot them on the bottom level. Repeat this loop till they are dead, then go back to the camping spot.

You can take 1 hit from the boss without dying but you should keep running if they are close to you, some distance will be made eventually. You can run all the way to the other side of the map if you need to, just keep jumping when you are near enemies so you don’t get shot. On the final wave you may not need to kill both bosses before it ends.
