This guide should help you get more performance (from Slime Rancher and more enjoyment) from Slime Rancher 2.
 
I was surprised at the default settings of Slime Rancher 2. It does not run well out the box.
 
I spent 5 minutes adjusting these settings, and my FPS was doubled.
 
 

Display Settings

The display settings are quite intuitive, but double-check!
 
 
Resolution: Pick your native resolution (or the highest)
 
 
FullscreenandVSYNC Disabled is my recommendation. This is especially important for adaptive sync and Gsync monitors. This applies to all games and not just Slime Rancher.
 
 
Framerate limit: 144 should be sufficient for most computers.
 
 
FOV: This preference is yours. Choose what you want. 90is an excellent choice if your monitor is at least 2 feet away. If you sit far away from your TV, choose a lower number 70 to 80.
 
 
Overscan: How is this included in a 2022-released game? Go awayyy!
 
 

 
 
 

Graphics Settings

 
These settings should work if your game is at 1440p and you have a mid-range GPU, such as me ((RTX2060S/RTX3060), or a GTX1070.
 
 
I went from 30FPS down to 60FPS. You can optimize more than this. Please experiment.
 
 
Start with the Top-most setting MEDIUMMEDIUM There are many ways to tweak.
 
 
ShadersShaders High It does not cost much FPS to my card. It is worth it.
 
 
Antialiasing OFF, My personal preference.
 
 
Chromatic Aberration: Disabled, The FPS score has increased by a significant amount. Disabling it also improves the visual clarity. This is IMO a stupid default setting.
 
 
Ambient Occlusion: Normal. This is a common cost, but the visual benefit is well worth it.
 
 
Textures:Textures: HIGH, If you have less that 8GB of VRAM, you can set textures Medium or Low.
 
 

 
 
 

Input Settings

This is very important!
 
 
Mouse Smoothing: DISABLED
 
…PLEASE DO THIS ONE, IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANOTHER.
 
It is absurd that this default setting is used. Smoothing causes significant input lag. Most modern games turn this off by default. I hope future patches will correct the oversight.
 
 
Mouse Look Sensitivity: A quick reminder to adjust your mouse sensitivity until you like it. Ignore the value I selected.
