An endeavour to help people understand the basics of arguably the best pinball game on steam.
A couple of things to know
1-) The game works on win10 without any issues. (I played it over 17 hours and it never crashed once)
2-) Sometimes flippers or the ball itself will get stucked, there is nothing you can do to fix that, though if you’re like me and used to the occasional jankiness of real pinball machines, you’ll feel right at home.
3-) You can nudge the table but it does not make any difference. If you nudge it long enough by smashing your keyboard, the table dies (literally).
4-) Although the game has a single table, it’s more than enough because this table offers many unique features.
5-) If you’re wondering why this game never gets updates, well apparently that’s because the developer of this game died in a car accident a few years back. The game did get an update, called 1.02, which is supposed to fix some problems but didn’t roll out on steam, so I uploaded it here:
https://mega – [] .nz/file/al1EjZqT#4coavkphCnyr8lNRb-6vfQMDNzWzyW-VNjSZrKJbv1s
Extract it and choose the root folder of the game while installing; ……Steam\steamapps\common\SlamIt Pinball Big Score
6-) The game has neither achievements nor any cloud support, so you should backup your local files yourself if you want to keep your scores. Save file is located in the data folder of the root folder given above.
7-) Neither the game nor the patch given has any malware, you can verify it yourself.
Gameplay tips
Now the real thing begins.
First of all, it’s so easy to make high scores in this game despite its challenging and enigmatic table. All you need to do is to understand the underlying features of its game modes, that way it’ll become more fun and easier. Let me explain the table first;
You should be able to see the two areas marked with red circles, ignore others for now. Obviously, you need to avoid them if you don’t want to lose your ball, but contrary to many other pinball games on pc, Slamit pinball does not give you a chance to redeem your ball, not even once. So, in addition to the hole inbetween the flippers, you have to pay attention to those two red circles.
If you look at the yellow circles, you can see that, again as opposed to other pinball games, the ball does not go all the way to the top but rather exits in the middle. While this makes it easier to place the ball there and get bonus, oftentimes it also shoots the ball right into those red circles.
Light blue circle indicates the “start mode”, which is necessary to initiate all the game modes that you can see right above the flippers. You have to hit it twice in order to begin the game mode flashing at that time. If you hit it during any game mode, you get 1m bonus. If you somehow managed to do all the game modes and hit the start mode in a single life, you get a jackpot, which I’ll explain later.
Finally, if you look at the white circle, you can see a little hole, which should be your priority target because it gives you a second ball if you hit it twice in a ball life. The only way you can hit is to make use of the flipper next to the top yellow circle.
Orange circle is the display bar, as you can imagine, it is here that you will be able to begin the game by throwing a coin, which is numpad 1 by default. You can also see the information regarding your gameplay and play the speed driving game mode on this screen.
The two green circles are the roads that you will make use of as they are necessary to change the game mode – you can see which game mode you’ll play next if you look at the blue circle. Here, there are 5 modes; gear up, car theft, get the team, shooting practice and speed driving. In the picture, speed driving is active. If you hit the blue road, it’ll switch to shooting practice, right to left and vice versa.
White circle indicates the bank, which will give you extra points if you managed to get the ball inside it. You’ll have to shoot all the numbers if you want to get the real bank awards but I’ll get on that later.
Pink circle is the most unnecessary feature of the table as it gives you next to nothing even if you get all 4 of them flashing, so avoid that if you can. Right next to that there is a tank, which is showed with a red circle. If you somehow managed to hit the jackpot, this tank will open for you to shoot the ball inside. If you can do that, it’ll give you rare rewards, which I’ll show you later.
Lastly, yellow circle is the engine. It is necessary to use in the car theft mode but it also serves as a jail for the ball.
Now that you are familiar with the table, I’ll show you every feature this game has to offer one by one.
Let’s start with getting another ball, which is arguably the best thing in pinball. In Slamit pinball, it’s fairly easy to get one, all you have to do is shoot the ball into the hole shown in red circle twice. You can do this by shooting the ball with the marked right flipper just before it passes by.
In a similar manner, you can get an extra ball. It is different than having two balls because it increases the overall amount of balls you hold rather than having them on the table.
It can be g0tten through several ways. You can get it as a bank or jackpot reward, you can hit the little hole above 3 times or you can hit the engine or the bridge when you hear the announcer saying “extra ball is lit”.
If you can hit all 4 syllable of the word bank and get the ball inside, you’ll complete the bank and it’ll reset.
But even if one syllable remains and you get the ball inside the bank, a second ball will get locked inside the engine, which you’ll have to shoot to get another ball on the table.
You don’t lose your ball, in fact you get another ball if you can shoot the jail in time.
If you can manage to get this second ball into the jail again and release it, you get 10m bonus.
If you complete the bank for a second time in a ball life, you’ll get a random bank award.
These awards also change arbitrarily over time.
The big red circle shows you the bridge, which is necessary for several things. You can get the ball there from either side, given in little red circles. If the ball goes all the way through the bridge 3 times, you’ll hear “run baby run” and get 5m everytime it does. Getting the ball there is also necessary to complete the “car theft” game mode.
Car theft is a game mode where you have 2 objectives given below.
Like all the game modes, you have to hit the start mode twice to begin this game mode. If the ball survives by the time you finish it, you get a score based on how many times you achieved the objective.
Speed driving is the easiest mode out there since all you have to do is avoid the cars in traffic. You can control the car with right and left flippers, it is easy because every time it is the same pattern of cars, a nice reward too.
In gear up, you need to hit the targets in red circles.
You get 5m for every target you shoot.
Get the team is the most fun game mode of all because everytime you shoot the bridge/roads, you get another ball, i.e. a team member.
You have to get one of the balls inside this little hole after shooting the bridge to get bonus for each team members.
The last game mode is Shooting practice, which is basically Gear up but one target at a time.
Each time you shoot that target, it disappears and reappears at another place.
If you somehow manage to make it reappear 4 times, then it becomes Gear up, and each time you hit a target, it says boxing hit and gives 500k.
Gameplay tips (continued)
If you finish Shooting practice mode without missing a target or losing the ball, you can get very high scores.
Finally, there is the “Jackpot”, which you can get by shooting the start mode 3 times in a single life on top of finishing all the game modes and thereby opening the tank.
Your goal here is to get the ball inside that open tank using the newly created ramp in a fairly short period of time.
If you can do that, the announcer will yell jackpot and you’ll get either 50m or two extra balls.
And that’s it. Now you’re all set to engrave a familiar thing that will surely conjure up good old arcade days.
Incidentally, I am not affiliated with the developers/publishers of this game in any way.
