As you might know, the developers altered the original Nightmare difiiculty level. So now you have 50 health and enemies are sloooow. Sounds fun, right? Well, NO. This is how you fix this blasphemy.
 
 

 
 
 

EZ method for millenials

All you need to do is download this archive – [mail.ru]  from a shady russian site and extract it into your game folder (Steam\steamapps\common\Quake), what might go wrong? Just kidding, theese are old files repacked by me for better compatibility with the new Quake.
 
 
This will also fix the nails position for the nailgun.
 
 
It seem to work fine but I did not test it much, please report any problem in the comment section! This fix is for the original game and first two addons only.
 
 
 

Manual method

1. Open Steam\steamapps\common\Quake\id1
2. Make a copy of PAK0.PAK
3. Open PAK0_copy.PAK in an archiver (like 7-Zip or WinRAR). It is generally a simple .zip file
4. Delete everything except progs.dat and save
5. Move PAK0_copy.PAK into Steam\steamapps\common\Quake\rerelease\id1
6. Rename PAK0_copy.PAK to PAK2.PAK (there is already PACK1.PAK; if there are other .PAK files, just increase the number so you do not overwrite the existing files)
7. Repeat everything for the addon folders (rogue and hipnotic instead of id1)

 
You can also use progs.dat files from here – [quakeone.com]  This will additionally fix the position of nails coming from the nailgun.
 
 
 

Fixing Dimensions of the past

I think you need to just delete progs.dat from Steam\steamapps\common\Quake\rerelease\dopa\pak0.pak
