Panzer Corps 2 Random scenario gameplay tips for multiplayer

Intro

 
Hello. A lot of people don’t understand how a multiplayer random map should be played. Randomized maps can be very fun as they provide a unique experience that is totally different from the pre-built scenarios. The strategy for those maps should also be altered. I will share some tips for the new players. 
 
 
The PBEM online multiplayer works like this: 
1. You host a new scenario or join another player’s game. The game then will appear in your multiplayer list. 
2. When it’s your turn you’ll be able to click on the “play” button. 
3. Click “play”, finish your moves and then click on “END TURN” 
4. You’ll find yourself in the main menu. That means your turn was uploaded and your opponent will be able to do his turn next. After the opponent finishes their move you will be able to follow up again. 
If two players are connected to the session at the same time, you will not be kicked to the main menu and can play your turn immediately. 
 
 
 

Commander traits selection

 
Different people prefer a different combination of traits that may suit their playstyle more, but some of the traits are obviously better than the others. 
In my opinion, you can safely choose these negative traits:

Sometimes the game glitches and it allows you to select a second set of traits. Just skip it or choose the same ones to avoid cheating. 
 
 
 

Deployment

 
Disband all starting units, you do not need any of those. 
 
 
 
Your goal during the initial turns is to capture as many hexes as possible. Every captured hex gives you a fixed amount of prestige (once) and a certain amount of prestige per turn (you can view that info if you select a hex).

⠀In addition to that, you gain more map control, you reveal more area and you’re getting closer to meet the victory condition. 
 
 
 
We need the most mobile units. Depending on the map size you get a different amount of transport limit. Paratroopers is the most important unit in a random map and the map host (player 1) can drop them first, which means that “tiny” and “small” maps are unplayable for 1v1 matches with Paratroopers. (If you do not want to play with Paratroopers, you can select 1939 as the starting year.) 
For a “large” map size your air transport is limited to 4. 
 
Purchase Paratroopers with no ground transport and deploy them in the farthest available hex. If the air transport limit is 4, then the first 4 Paratroopers will be already in the air, ready to move and drop in the very next turn. Purchase more Paratroopers near the airfield, so you can prepare the next batch for turn 2. 
 
 
 
Get some recon units with the best speed stat and also deploy them. Recon is also the only type of unit that can be undeployed after they use their movement. 
You can add a few Infantry units with the transport. The combination of transport and Forced Match ability can sometimes get them farther than a recon unit. 
If you have some rivers near your starting position it might be a good idea to get a few Bridge Engineers. Similarly, you might like a few Alpines if you have some mountains in your path. Your final deployed army might look like this: 
 
 
 
 
 

Starting turns

 
Use your deployed units to capture as many hexes as possible. Remember that Paratroopers’ landing point is not always precise, they can land in the nearest random hex, instead of the selected hex. Use the split command cleverly (very important for Paratroopers): 
 
 
 
Being a player 2 might be tough, depending on the randomization. As a player 2, predict which hexes your opponent is able to take first and go for the remaining ones. 
 
Hire some recon planes and use them to gather intel, this unit is very cheap and takes only 1 slot. The amount of map portion that they reveal is huge. 
 
Recon planes are also very useful for assisting the attack, effectively increasing enemy casualties if placed above. Another good trick is to place the plane above your own unit, in order to block an enemy bomber from attacking it. 
 
Always leave a garrison unit in your supply hex (it might be Bridge Engineer or Conscript). 
 
 
You can plan an attack on enemy supply hex using 3-4 Paratroopers. The effectiveness is hugely increased if any of those have a suiting hero. 
 
 
A hero with Flag Killer or Overwhelming Attack is a good example. 
 
 
If neither of the players captures the target amount of victory hexes by the end of the turn limit, the player with the most victory hexes wins.
