Light Bearers How To Survive: Cthulu’ling Edition

Introduction

 
I do not know how many of these I will make but I am going to start going over ways to tackle each shadow. Disclaimer, I am not the best at the game and may not give the best advice however I think I am overall adequate enough to tackle this endeavor. 
 
 

Abilities

• Cthulu’ling’s primary ability, or left click is very useful and a great asset to him. It is simply a teleport to a pyramid that he is looking at. 
• His Secondary, or right click, allows him to place a pyramid at his location. 
• And his Ultimate, or shift, allows him to activate his pyramids. When activated a visible border about the radius of the pyramid will show and entering will slow down bears to a crawl and harshly restrict jumping. 
   
  It is also worth noting that while near a pyramid Cthulu’ling will be invisible. 

How to Survive

 
Cthulu’ling is a shadow that will build up power as the round continues, becoming much more of a threat with each pyramid. Pyramids are his life blood, granting him powers like being able to spot you, make him invisible, increasing his movement about the map. Unlike the obelisks that Pestilence places down, bears cannot remove the pyramids. Put simply avoid the pyramids when possible, they are no place for a bear that wants to still do the light thing and glow. However that wont always be possible, whether you need to try and save a bear or just trying to pass through. 
 
When needing to go near a pyramid be careful, as mentioned earlier Cthulu’ling is invisible when near them. You will still however hear the voiceline alerting you that you are spotted. If you ever see a red circle appear around a pyramid shortly, that means your not so friendly neighborhood shadow just teleported there, stay calm and go the other way. When saving someone it is a major gamble if they are under a pyramid, and although not impossible it can be foolish to rush in, especially is he hasnt activated his pyramids in the last 15 seconds. If it is hard mode and you have a blessing make sure to use it, you need all the help you can get to evade the tentacled beast. Blessings like Loki’s Mask will help you fight fire with fire, granting you invisibility, however you might still walk into him without him even knowing you were coming so something to keep in mind. The invincibility blessing or the one that allows you to teleport to a corrupting bear can be very nice. 
 
 

How to Fight

 
Cthulu’ling plays very differently on each map. Find something that works for you and the current situation. You to want to spread your pyramids out across the map to allow you easy travel. Place pyramids on intersections/ high traffic areas to get the most use out of them. I like to save my ultimate ability for when I chase a bear into range of a pyramid. 
 
You live and die from your pyramids and their placement, that is where all of your power stems from, it can be easy to forget to place a pyramid down while chasing but make sure you do. You do not need to place it as soon as it is off cooldown, but when it does go off cooldown disengage from the chase and find a good close location, then you can teleport and continue that chase. I forget to place my pyramids more times than I would like to admit so I cant emphasize this enough. 
 

• If you have your secondary and ultimate off cooldown, while chasing someone if they are very close, you can right click and then shift to instantly trap them in the dimensional rift. It does require you to be just out of reach tho as the range is not huge. 
   
• On maps like Library and Wonderland. The range of the pyramids actually goes through the floor, effectively acting as a second mini pyramid for your ultimate or just searching for bears when they walk in the range. 
   
• I would recommend avoiding maps with large open areas like Nowhere. The teleports are nice, but there is simply to many places for the bears to run, and you wont get anyone to walk near them. 
   
• Try placing pyramids on the altars/ dance pads that appear in hard mode to discourage bears from trying to use them. Still keep an eye on them however as some brave, or foolish, bears will try and still charge them. Either teleport or proke your ultimate and teleport to get rid of them and teach them not to pick on the little guy. 
   
• For some reason your body can nudge corrupting bears, you might want to try and nudge them in a corner or wall to make them easier to protect. 
   
• Finally your primary ability can be a little screwy sometimes. If your left click ever seems like it is stuck at 7%, or just stuck in general, it is only visual and the ability should still work. 

Conclusion

 
Cthulu’ling can be a scary threat, but with knowledge of where the pyramids are, and avoiding routes that have them when possible, you can make it to the pool of light. I hope I helped with anyone struggling to survive against him, I know he isnt to common but he is the shadow I probably know the best and therefore a good start for me to writing these guides.
