Do you want to improve your learning experience? This guide is for you 🙂
Use an existing translation or translate the battle terms into your local language.

Intro

For a better learning experience, I recommend that you translate the battle terms into your native language.

I started with the English->Japanese game file. It is easy to learn with. It would be much easier to learn if I could do it using my native language. I looked at the game files, and contacted the developers. This is the result.

The game does a good job of teaching Japanese. A translation file for your native tongue is an excellent way to boost it 400%. Even if your English is good, it will help you learn. This does not include translation errors or things that cannot easily be translated. Some words are hard to translate. You’ll be amazed at the results of other languages, particularly Japanese, in the game.

Find the file to replace/translate

The translation must be made in the words_and_kana.txt file.

  • Right-click on the player -> Manage -> Browse local folders

  • After that, you can edit the file or substitute an existing translation.

    How to Install a Translation.

How to install a translator

Just download the desired translator and copy it into the learn file in the game directory.

Don’t forget to back up the original file. Below is a description of how to find the folder. Find the file to replace / translate.

Translations available

One thing to mention is that once you start a video game, the translations are baked into the save files. This means that changing the words_and_kana.txt will not affect the game until you start a brand-new one.

How to create a custom-translated file

  • Open the file “words_and_kana.txt” in a text editor like Notepad.

    (You could also use LibreCalc or MS Excel to do this.

    If you were able to convert and use CSV files, or in this instance a PIPE-separated Unicode file format.)

    WARNING! Do not use MS Word or another similar program. They can cause file corruption.

    You’ll see this:

  • Translations are not necessary for the hiragana, so scroll down until ID 1001.

    You will see the words that are possible to be translated.

    Line ID 1001 is an example of the Japanese language

    いいえ can be spelled iie. It is also translated as no.

  • In detail:

    The word in hiragana can be found in the 3rd column

    1001||いいえ|iie|no|0|0||||0|0|2|6|1|0

    The spelling in Japanese will be found in the 4th column.

    1001||iie|iie|no|0|0||||0|0|2|6|1|0

    The translation is found in the 5th Column

    1001||iie|iie|no|0|0||||0|0|2|6|1|0

    For the German language, a translated line would look like this.

    1001||iie|iie|nein|0|0||||0|0|2|6|1|0

    For example, a translation into french would be

    1001||iie|iie|non|0|0||||0|0|2|6|1|0

Translations are not required for all words. Some words aren’t used and don’t have a voice file. In this guide, I will explain the switches.

The voiced and used entries in the file might differ in other versions of this game.

I have translated all words. The translation itself can be fun and offer interesting insight and further knowledge. The translation took me half an hour. However, i was already learning Japanese so i would guess that you will need one to two days to complete the task. It will depend on what language you speak and how fast it is possible to use Japanese translation sites.

Always verify that your translations are accurate from multiple sources. There are often three translations for the exact same word. It can sometimes be confusing. Japanese words change their meanings depending on the context. A word is meaningless if it is not contextualized.

In such cases, translate from English. It might result in a bad or incorrect translation. However, you will recognize it in the game and update your translation.

One thing to note is that once you start a video game, the translations are baked into the save files. This means that changing the words_and_kana.txt will not affect the game until you start a brand-new one.

Sites that provide translations

Crosscheck your translations or you could end up with incorrect translations.

I used mainly

https://translate.google.com – [google.com]

https://www.deepl.com – [deepl.com]

Search for “xxxxx japanese” on many different sites

https://www.nihongomaster.com – [nihongomaster.com]

Do not rely on one source for translations. Google does a terrible job for Japanese. Copy the hiragana from google and cross-check. Verify it against other sites. Ask for help from a japanese acquaintance or friend. It would be a great idea, especially if your translation file is made public. This would be a great way to support this game. This will encourage developers and make it easier for others to translate.

The file format and columns explained

The battle transpositions are stored in a plain-text file called words_and_kana.txt In

Unicode format using the

They can be edited easily in a text editor.

  • The word to be translated is in the 3rd column “Kana”.

    1062||がんばって|ganbatte|persist, do your best|0|0||||0||30|3|1|0

  • The japanise word “Roumaji”, in the 4th column, is written in latin characters. Roumaji shows the spelling and how you can type the words using a latin keypad. To translate the がんばって word with a website/translation program, type the roumaji charsganbatte into.

    1062||ganbatsute|ganbatte|persist, do your best|0|0||||0||30|3|1|0

  • The current english translation is in the fifth column “English”. You can change the value of this column to translate it into your language.

    1062||ganbatsute|ganbatte|persist, do your best|0|0||||0||30|3|1|0

    If more than one translation is possible, the meanings are separated by a ,

    1062||ganbatsute|ganbatte|persist, do your best|0|0||||0||30|3|1|0

    がんばって and ganbatte can be translated as persist and do your best respectively.

    Japanese can use different words to refer to something, such as neesanA, which is used to refer the older sister. This is to clarify what explantation can mean.

    You can simply put it into () brackets. Separate them with an, as a different meaning.

    1637||neesan|neesan|sister, (older sister)|10|0|0|0||0|0|40|5|1|0

    () brackets may also be used to mark entries that require a review in order to find entries that must be improved.

    1191||gomen|gomen|sorry, (your marking here)|0|0||||1||23|-1|1|0

  • 11th column, “NonBattle”, turn on/off for battle

    0 = used during battle

    1 = not used during battle

    You may want to add more words if you already know japanese, or you’re starting a second playtrough.

    Here これ & それ have been turned on for combat, while あれ has not.

    1104||kore|kore|this|10|0||||0||13|1|1|0

    1105||sore|sore|that|10|0||||0||13|3|1|0

    1106||are|are|that over there|10|0||||1||14|-1|1|0

    Some answers may require more typing such as that over there.

  • 13th column “SectionId”, column (, 4th column from right). Lines with numbers 8888 or 9999 in this column are not used in the games. They can be left as is. They can be translated if you are planning a second playtrough, or if you need to make a complete translation. They may be used for future versions of this game.

    1032||totemo|totemo|very|0|0||||1||8888|9999|1|0

    You can find more information about adding words in the next section. Learn how to add words and change your order.

Adding words and changing the learning order

Description from the developer

Controlling the words you learn

Word learning is controlled through three variables

Learn Japanese RPG: Hiragana Forbidden Speech Translation and download guides - Adding words and changing learn order - 6900462

Non-Battle Word?

0 = Non, will be in fights

1 = Yes, will NOT fight

SectionId is a control of the order words are learned. Lower numbers are taught first.

Learn Order Controls the order in which words are learned for words that share the same SectionId. Lower numbers are taught first.

Example 1 – – Determining Learn Order

You can find more information at

Non-Battle word = 0

Section Id =

Learn Order = 1

i

Non-Battle word = 0

Section Id =

Learn Order = 2

Both a and I’s Section IDs = 2

Which one is easier to learn?

The tie is broken by Learn Order in this case. If a has a lower Learn Order 1 – than (i (2 – ), then a would-be taught first.

If Section Id or Learn Order are equal, I believe the order in which the words are placed in the file may determine the outcome.

Example 2: – Changing the word to be learned and used during battle

Jikan is not a battle word and is currently excluded from the game.

Change 1 – – Set Section ID and Order

Set Section Id = 1, and Learn Order = 2.

Learn Japanese RPG: Hiragana Forbidden Speech Translation and download guides - Adding words and changing learn order - 55066E6

However, the word is still considered a non-battle word and will not be learned.

Change 2 – – Set Non Battle Word? to 0

Learn Japanese RPG: Hiragana Forbidden Speech Translation and download guides - Adding words and changing learn order - 5476125

This word can now easily be learned through battles.

Example 3 – – Setting up a list of words

I’ve added/updated four words in the words_and_kana.txt File

Their Section IDs = 1 so they will be your first words in the game even before regular content whose lowest Section ID = 2.

I set the Learn Order at 3, 4, 5, 6, and 6 to order them. If the Learn Order of the two files is the same, the order will be determined according to the order in which they appear in the file.

Non-battle word? = 0 in all cases.

Custom voice files

Words with the values of 8888 or 9999 in SectionId)’s 13th column do not have voice files. The battles will therefore not receive any vocal response.

Learn Japanese RPG: Hiragana Forbidden Speech Translation and download guides - Adding words and changing learn order - 92F20BA

However, you can still add custom voice files and place them into the folder .\audio\KanaWords.

For example, place a voice file titled jikan in the folder as follows:

.\audio\KanaWords\jikan.ogg

Search for sound files within your favorite anime games for private use They are often kept in separate folders like.ogg-files. You can copy and rename these files, or even convert them from other formats.

Editing the word_and_kana.txt can help you learn words and phrases from your favorite anime game.
