This guide shows you how to update a mod for a newer version of the game so you won’t have the launcher complaining that you do not have a compatible version.
This solution just tricks the launcher into thinking the version works for the current build but does not actually make it work if the mod is not compatible with the new Version. Use at your own Risk!
Backup your savegames before you try this because it might break them.
This guide is for HOI4 but it works similarly for other Paradox games.
How to update a mod
First navigate to the mods folder for HOI4
It looks like this:
Click on the folder for the mod you want to update. To find the right folder look at the url of the mod:
In the mod folder open descriptor.mod with a text editor:
Then change the version number to the current version number. You can use a * for the last digit:
How to make a mod work with a total conversion
Total conversions (like Kaiserreich oder Millenium Dawn) often don’t simply work with other mods. You may make them work with this trick. Or you may ruin your savegame. Back them up!
Open the descriptor.mod file for the mod you want to use with the total conversion mod.
Add the dependencies section to the descriptor file. Then add the name of the total conversion mod. To find the correct name open the descriptor.mod file for the total conversion mod.
If this does not work your mod might not be compatible
