Example of realm mode run on torment difficulty
I will pick characters without any healing, pushes/pulls.
Alphonse Rogue, Lucius Duelist, Pierre Spellbinder.
We need to choose realm.
First one gives exhaustion, third one has unknown layout, second is the easiest one.
Next we need to remove skills. Rogue and Duelist remove defense, Spellbinder removed Shock with melee range.
Now let’s choose path. We have 2 elite fights:
First one seems much easier
First turn, we are unlucky as we do not see intent
We do not have room to avoid the attack so we put a hero with guard
End of combat
I was lucky with event, now I will have 3 Fate for the merchant.
Let’s check intents. I have extra energy from event, but it is not important in this combat
Check tooltip, the enemy attacks this lane no matter what so we can avoid this attack by moving away.
This one will hit Alphonse no matter what (we cannot avoid it because the enemy is in the middle lane) so we can make Alphone guard enough (Smoke Bomb and Parry). But our first idea should be to kill the unit since then we are not attacked by anyone. For that we should click on all our heroes, check their skills and calculate how much damage we can do. Let’s pretend that I am a bad/lazy player so I will guard with Alphonse instead of attacking.
Now Lucius acts. Again, let’s pretend that I am a bad/lazy player and I moved away from the lower lane.
Oops, now I see that moving away was not needed, I can actually block all damage and even apply Thorns to deal damage to attacker, so let’s play another Parry and then Shift back to the lower lane.
Oops again, after Spellbinder’s turn we see that we didn’t need to defend with Alphonse, the attacker will die to poison and burn.
We cannot avoid all damage and we cannot kill attacking units so we need to defend vs 8 damage.
End of turn:
It is trivial, we are attacked by almost dead unit only.
End of next turn, I stayed in range of attack just for fun.
I will skip the rest of combat, we are not in video format here…
All heroes have level 3. I bought an item for 3 Fate from Merchant, but I cannot equip it without using a talent and using a talent would be quite bad. Now you will see why:
Check top row with initiative. If all my heroes didn’t use +10 Initiative talent from Dex tree, they would suffer damage and some status and I would kept being attacked every turn, it would be a sure defeat. The screenshot above shows situation at the end of my turn.

Only Lucius was attacked for 14 damage and it allowed to deal 3 reflected damage.
This is situation at the end of my actions, nobody is attacked.
I made a mistake and didn’t realize that the boss can attack the whole row even if there are no enemies in 2 adjacent lanes. Here is end of round, I will take 7 damage:
Boss created 4 poison grounds, I am not attacked
Here we have a problem, there are no enough cells to avoid damage. I cannot guard Scorpions attack as it will move me in first row with poison ground so I need to tank boss damage.
Trivial turn, I am not attacked. Yet the boss has 2 immunities every turn which really limits my options (I have 2 characters relying on debuff) so I attacked scorpion.
Another mistake on my side. There was no way to avoid boss attack and I wanted to tank with Alphonse, instead Lucius will take 1 damage. Both scorpions die this turn.
Trivial turn again. Finally I start applying some serious fire damage.

As you can see, even with some mistakes on my side and using starting deck it is possible to clear first realm on torment difficulty level. Next realms become easier as you get several levels from boss fight and finally can customize your deck.
