There are no yellow exclamation points in this game.
Welcome to Everquest
You might notice that there are no yellow exclamation points in this game. How do you know where the quests are?
Well, you will have to press H (default) or type Hail, while selecting an NPC. This will then prompt them to talk to you and say something (if they have something to say). Say hail to everyone you meet, because you never know who might have a quest.
This is the traditional way. In some newer content areas, there will be NPC’s who have a (quests) or (missions) tag on them. But, when you explore old content or oldschool servers, you will need to follow this guide.
Keywords and Questions
After hailing the NPC, read what they say. They might give a generic message, or they might say something with blue keywords. Sometimes you can click on these blue words to further the conversation. Other times, you cannot.
If you cannot, then you must type a response, like “Where is lord grimrot?” or “I lost my bracelet.”
NPC’s might also ask you questions. Pay attention. You will have to type answers to the questions they might ask you. Don’t give up, because sometimes you have to word the phrase the right way. Simple proper English is best, so don’t use slang.
Write things down
Quests sometimes operate in chains. An NPC might tell you an important keyword for another NPC, and if you don’t write this keyword down, you will be unable to continue the questline.
Write things down! Keep notes! You will regret it if you don’t.
Something to note is that quests in EQ give very little exp.
Quests in EQ are all about giving reputation, money, or epic loot. If you are doing quests, trying to level, you might find your leveling very slow.
Many quests in this game are secret. You must explore and find them. This is part of the fun of exploring the world of Everquest, because you never know what you might stumble upon. Good luck!
