This is a guide for Caves of Lore – Crafting Weapons and Armor Guide
This guide will provide an explanation of some of the more obscure mechanisms that aren’t fully explained in the game or that you will need to figure out from the legends. Spoilers are used to indicate some of the more hidden information.
Designing Weapons and Armour
- Iron is standard.
- Silver damages undead.
- Corundum is more destructive than iron and silver.
- You can continue to improve your weapon by adding more chunks of ore to increase damage at a minimum (iron), decrease the weight/strength requirement (silver) or increase max damage (corundum).
- The same is true for armour, with iron and corundum increasing the amount of protection offered.
Enchanting Items
- The enchanter
Kazimar the mage was originally from Kilandraur.
- To enter the menu that is enchanting speak to the enchanter and click on the backpack icon on the left.
- To get a stock of enchantments, you must remove them from items that have already been enchanted.
- Once this is done the enchantment effect will be visible in the list to the right.
- You can apply these enchantments another item using a small portion of the Manatite ore available.
- Manatite can be used to enhance an existing magic effect.
- Each item can have up to three enchantments.
Moongates and Moongates
This section will describe the fundamental mechanics, hopefully without giving too much away in terms of secrets. With that in mind, I will focus on putting the information that the game will provide to you into one place. However, as a part of the fun is piecing together the information from the stories that are scattered throughout the game, I would not recommend looking up this information at the beginning.
Moons
- The orrery in the top left of the interface displays the movement of the moons orbiting.
- The indicator on the left shows which moons are in effect at any given time.
- Both images are numbered to describe which indicator represents the moon.

Runes
- There are numerous runes that are written on walls and floors throughout the country.
- These runes are a representation of the moons shown in the above images. These runes are lit when the moon is at its highest point.
- When all the moon runes have been lit in a certain area, a mystery is revealed.
Moon runes may only be activated if the moon specified is the only moon that is in effect.
- Hidden within the library is a spell that will allow you to secure a rune that is lit in place, irrespective of the position of moons. This is useful when there are a number of runes that are linked to a particular secret. This spell is able to lock another rune every three levels.
- The other runes have a specific meaning, as shown in the images below.
Sometimes, these runes will only become apparent by casting Arcane Sight.

Moongates
- Moongate runes are a symbol of a magical portal that is hidden.
- Each portal is linked to one of the three moons. The portal is activated by the moon at its Zenith, much like the runes.
- The Fae is excluded from this, however all other sources of light must also be extinguished.
