Hello there! This guide describes the setups to be used for Unwavering Faith Penitence run in True Torment Mode (NG+). This is the first time I am writing a guide so excuse me if it’s not as polished as other Steam guides.

Changes in Unwavering Faith

First of all you should know what changes once you opt for Unwavering Faith Penitence.

  • Melee attacks are half as effective.
  • Fervour regenerates over time.
  • Taking damage will reduce your fervour stacks.

As you can see, your sword attack efficiency has been halved but you gain passive Fervour regeneration. Though you should keep in mind that taking too much hits will make it difficult to cast your spells efficiently.

HEART

Heart of Cerulean Incense : It increases the generation of The Penitent One’s Fervour by 100%.
Very helpful to increase the rate at which you gain Fervour stacks. Say, you have a Fervour stack ready but got hit and lost a bit of it and hence can’t cast the spell, this Heart comes so much handy in order to compensate for Fervour that you lost this way.

NOTE : I do not recommend Smoking Heart of Incense which increases the damage and duration of Prayers but also increases their cost by one Fervour bar. Though you do double Prayer damage with this Heart, the usage cost is also doubled so it evens out.
Also, say a boss has little HP but is out of your reach, and you have 1.5 bar of Fervour for a Prayer that uses 2 bars. You can’t cast anything and are at risk on losing. Meanwhile if you had Heart of Cerulean Incense equipped, you’d be easily get the spell cast done and win the fight. Aside from that, you’ll need to hit the bosses a lot of times to get your Fervour stacks and it can become tedious as your sword damage is halved. Also, if your spell misses the boss, you’ll lose a lot momentum.

BEADS

Embers of a Broken Star – increases the Fervour generated with attacks [Synergizes with Heart of Cerulean Incense]

Big Bead of Blue Wax – Increases your total Fervour amount [Lets you have one more cast on average]

Drop of Coagulated Ink – Provides a +100% prayer damage bonus [Quickens up boss fights]

Pelican Effigy – Negates all damage while using a Bile Flask [Lets you heal without getting hit, hence saving your Fervour stacks from depleting]

Rest bead choices are upto you, I’d go for defensive beads personally with Mason’s Wheel (which increases your Movement Speed).

PRAYERS FOR EACH BOSS

  • Warden of the Silent Sorrow : Lorquiana

  • Ten Piedad : Lorquiana

  • Our Lady of the Charred Visage : Debla

  • Tres Angustias : Cante Jondo of the Three Sisters

  • Esdras, of the Anointed Legion : Lorquiana [plenty of opportunities to use it, especially when he summons lightning and you’re maintaining your distance] + Debla [whenever he and his sister are aligned next to you]

  • Melquiades, the Exhumed Archbishop : Zarabanda of the Safe Haven [chops down the hands while keeping you at a safe position from his staff and magic beams] & Debla [once he is at ground level]

  • Exposito, Scion of Abjuration : Cante Jondo of the Three Sisters

  • Quirce, Returned by the Flames : Lorquiana [when he dashes towards you, just jump behind him and cast it while he’s in recovery animation] & Debla [whenever he’s on the roof]

  • Crisanta of Wrapped Agony : Verdiales of the Forsaken Hamlet / Tiento to your Thorned Hairs

  • His Holiness Escribar (Phase 1) : Lorquiana [damages him even when he’s using his shield]

  • Last Son of the Miracle (Phase 2) : Debla [on the sword first and then on the opened up mask]

ADDITIONAL NOTES

  • Deposit 10,000 Tears of Atonement in the Albero Church as soon as possible. It make all Prie Dieu fill your Fervour to max whenever you kneel at one. Hence, you’ll be full with Fervour whenever entering a boss fight.
  • For Tres Angustias, get as many sword attacks in as possible when the three of them combine into one, as it’s the best time to stack Fervour for this fight.
  • Hitting the hands that carry Melquiades DOES NOT GENERATE Fervour, doesn’t matter what bead/heart you equip. So keep this in mind and use your spells smartly.
  • Crisanta is the most difficult fight for this run in my opinion. I also tried Romance to the Crimson Mist and Sons of the Aurora but they weren’t as effective as I expected them to be. Tiento trivializes the fight but I couldn’t come up with a better alternative.
  • For Escribar, use Lorquiana conservatively BECAUSE if you spam it here, you’ll end up with low Fervour in Phase 2 aka Last Son of the Miracle, and it will be very tedious to stack Fervour with all the projectiles going around in that phase.

Good luck for your Unwavering Faith run!
