This is a very simplified combat guide, to help new players learn about some of the game's features.
Selecting your soldiers
Settlers with disabled military ability (or red) will not get drafted when they go into combat mode. However, they will continue to work (but run into enemies unless an Emergency shelter zone is placed).
Skills resets are a common problem in job managers so it is best not to do this.
Establishing patrol zones
If you're not like me and don’t want to spend 10 minutes setting each settler up for every battle, Patrol zones are the place for you!
As with any other zone, you can create as many as possible.
… and assign your soldiers according to your needs (melee in the front, ranged back).
Notice: There are no limit to the number or settlers that can each be assigned.
These settings are easy to understand
Permanent – They will not do any other job than guard set zone, so good to disable if you don't have enough workers
Shooting position – turn on ranged for melee, turn off melee zone
Allow hospital leave – let them get stitched up
Never quit – fight to death
The creation of a combat team
You may want to create a quick response team to clear caves or buildings. Once they have gathered, you can select them all and hit Draft Military.
